Human beings are not respecting our most valuable resource – WATER. Questions for group discussion: • Pollution hurts people, animals and the environment in many different ways. Discuss this statement and then write down five ways in which you can take responsibility to ensure that your environment is not polluted. • Drinking polluted water can make you very sick. Discuss the ways that people pollute water and suggest how this could be stopped. • Talk about what you use water for in your home and at school everyday – e.g. to drink, to cook, to bath. What would happen to you and your environment if you did not have access to clean water? • Clean water is a basic human right and yet many people still do not have access to clean water and walk many kilometres each day to fetch water. Talk about how clean water can be made available to more people. • Living in an environment where people are mean or abusive is also a form of pollution. Talk about how to take responsibility for not polluting the feelings of people in your daily life. • Talk about the effects of urbanisation, deforestation, soil erosion, industry and the destruction of wetlands on our access to clean water.
