Fire PerformanceIt is paramount for a firewall that the wall or ceiling construction offers the highest levels of fire protection for both life and property safety. Firemaster wall and ceiling panels, with their non-combustible stone wool core can deliver up to 4 hours fire performance that is independently certified by the Loss Prevention Certification Board [LPCB] and FM Global. Long fire-rated spans (up to 7.5m to LPS 1208 and up to 12m to BS 476 Part 22) .Tested fire performance is of the complete wall construction not individual components and hence gives reassurance of how the wall would protect in an actual fire incident.
Speed and FlexibilityFiremaster panels are engineered for rapid installation and the ability to quickly install fully finished walls and ceilings can make the difference when time is of the essence. The panels are manufactured to the exact specification for the project with on-site cutting and waste kept to a minimum. Not only are Eurobond Firemaster wall and ceiling solutions simple and quick to install but it is also demountable to allow the internal partitions to be altered ‘future proofing’ the use of buildings such as warehouses, factories and offices.
Cost SavingsIn order to substantiate likely cost savings for Firemaster stone wool cored composite panels compared to traditional blockwork and jumbo metal stud an independent third party cost comparison was commissioned in 2014 with independent cost consultant Faithful + Gould.Firemaster systems were found to be the cheapest method of construction for two hour fire resistance walls with cost savings of up to 40% per m².
Panel systems can also be constructed over 10 times quicker than both blockwork and jumbo stud and board walls, leading to the possibility of significant savings in construction programmes. Panel systems are also pre-finished, allowing follow-on trades to start as soon as the walls are erected, further enhancing programme advantages.
Controlled environmentsFiremaster is a modern method of construction that delivers low fire risk construction for clean and hygienic environments. The symmetrical hygienic panel joint creates a sealed surface and can maintain a controlled sterile environment minimising airborne particles and micro-organisms. Wall and ceiling panels are suitable for use in food processing areas, clean rooms, offices, toilets and other amenities, with a temperature range of 1° C to 50° C.
Firemaster is available with a foodsafe laminate option using Advantica® L Control by Tata Steel. This provides an anti-static internal surface.
Advantica® L Control foodsafe laminate is the standard facing material with an option for stainless steel also.
ConstructionFiremaster installation is quick and easy installation with no wet trades and delivers a high quality finished product with little skilled installation training necessary. Panels can be installed without the need for scaffolding and with minimal on site handling and low waste.
EnvironmentFiremaster stone wool core panels pose minimal impact to the environment as they rely upon trapped air to maintain their thermal properties. Stone wool is manufactured from diabase rock, a natural resource found in abundance around the world. Panels can be totally recycled at the end of life as part of a ‘cradle to cradle’ approach.

Using panels that can span up to 12m means that secondary steelwork can either be eliminated or significantly reduced allowing the following benefits:
Cost savings for steelwork.Reduction in build programme.Cleaner, uncluttered internal appearance.
The only significant constraints on the length of the panel are handling considerations, wind pressure and suction.
Wind loads are dependent on the building location and dimensions. The calculation of the wind loads, as laid down in Eurocode 1 (EN 1991 1.4), is a complex and demanding procedure for which Eurobond offer an advisory service to techinically verify and model buildings and locations to calculate spanning capability.
*Dependant on project/building environment spans in excess of 12m is possible. Please contact Eurobond technical department for project specific information.
Eurobond’s panels offer exceptional spanning characteristics resulting from the composite action of the metal facings bonded to a high density structural stone wool core. Development and testing allows Eurobond panels to be used to span up to 12m*.

The Eurobond philosophy is one of continual improvement, striving to manufacture and deliver to customers the most environmentally responsible and sustainable products. Key to this is establishing, implementing and maintaining an Integrated Management System which complies with the requirements of ISO9001:2008, ISO14001:2004 and BES 6001.
Whilst sustainability and ‘green’ credentials have become more important considerations in recent years it is not always easy to validate the claims companies make about their performance and that of their products. Eurobond’s aim is to make specifying the most sustainable products simpler and more transparent. To this end it has implemented BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products standard that independently demonstrates that a building material has been produced in a way that has minimised its environmental impact and is sustainable. Eurobond Is the first UK composite panel manufacturer to achieve this standard.
BREEAM The BREEAM family of assessment methods and tools are designed to help construction professionals understand and mitigate the environmental impacts of the developments they design and build. When the building has been evaluated through BREEAM, the building owner, developer, and/or occupant may use the assessment rating to demonstrate the sustainability performance of their building in the marketplace.
The environmental credentials of Eurobond’s products ensure that, within the materials section of BREEAM assessment, buildings are given an ideal start to achieve a high rating. Responsible sourcing is becoming more important and this is also reflected in the latest version of BREEAM, which now awards extra credits for products that have been assessed to BES 6001
End of Life Solutions The raw materials used in the manufacture of Eurobond composite panels have a high content of recycled materials and this help to minimises the environmental impact of construction, reducing carbon emissions by diverting materials from landfill and limiting the depletion of finite natural resources. At the end of a building’s life Eurobond composite panels offer a ‘Cradle to Cradle’ approach to recycling where materials are recycled in a closed loop. This maximises material value whilst minimising the damage to ecosystems - products are used, recycled and re-used again without losing any material quality.
In independent tests WRAP [Waste & Resources Action Programme] found Eurobond’s products are fully and independently recyclable, allowing new stone wool cored composite panels to be made diverting waste from landfill.
Eurobond delivers on its brand promise of low environmental impact from raw material sourcing, efficient manufacturing and market leading product performance, minimum waste and a proven recycling option at the end of a building’s life.

stone wool properties
2828
Stone wool is completely rot proof and does not encourage the growth of fungi, moulds or bacteria. It is hydrophobic which means it will not absorb moisture and is water repellent, resisting the infiltration of water. The structure and integrity of stone wool insulation is not affected by the presence of water.
This makes it suitable for storage and manufacturing in the food and drinks industry as well as other controlled environments. Eurobond has carried out a series of independent tests to prove the safety and suitability of stone wool in these types of environments.
Resistance to bacterial growth Campden BRI carried out two tests to show that Rockwool does not promote bacterial growth:
Japanese Seal method The results of this test showed that using an example of typical food industry Gram of negative (E.coli) and Gram positive (S.aureus) bacteria, there was no evidence to suggest that stone wool sustained more microbial growth than other control materials and may potentially inhibit the growth of some micro-organisms.
Injection methodFrom the results obtained it can be concluded that stone wool does not promote growth of L.monocytogenes, P.aeruginosa and S.cerevisiae when injected into the material. In fact the counts decreased in stone wool compared with pathogenic bacteria controls.
In summary, using examples of typical food micro-organisms, there was evidence to suggest that microbial counts decrease when injected into stone wool.
Resistance to waterStone wool is hydrophobic which means it will not absorb, attract or accumulate moisture. Campden BRI carried out a test which showed that when water was placed onto the surface of the stone wool, a distinct ball formed showing the material is hydrophobic. Once the head of water is sufficient to overcome the surface tension holding the water on the surface, the stone wool becomes ‘leaky’ and allows the water through. There did not appear to be any ‘wicking’ or capillary effect.

stone wool performance
2929
The manufacture of stone wool mimics the natural process that occurs inside volcanoes, spinning and cooling a lava-like substance in a controlled environment.. The molten material is spun into wool and formed into a mat, which is then carried through ovens where it is cured and compressed giving it good structural strength. This is used as the core for the Firemaster panel.
The raw material – diabase rock – is a renewable and plentiful natural resource, making stone wool highly sustainable
Stone wool has outstanding properties and performance that make it especially suitable for the Firemaster panel:
Fire – Superb fire properties and rated A1, the safest under the Euroclass Reaction to Fire
Insulation – stone wool has excellent thermal and acoustic properties
Biological – stone wool is completely rot proof and does not encourage the growth of mould or bacteria
Environment – No CFCs or HCFCs used in manufacture and it is fully recyclable
Water Resistance – stone wool repels water. The vapour resistance is negligible and usually considered to be the same as that of air
Stone wool is the safe choiceStone wool products are easy and safe to use. The World Health Organisation
has left stone wool off its list of potential carcinogens following long-term studies. After more than 60 years in use, stone wool has proven to be the safe choice. The safety of stone wool insulation is confirmed by UK and EU health and safety legislation that confirms that stone wool is free from suspicion of carcinogenic effects, ie is not classified as a possible human carcinogen (UK HSE ‘CHIP’ Regulations and European Directive 97/69/EC)Fraunhofer ITA certificate no. 02G98006A details the results of tests undertaken on Rockwool stone wool in accordance with the required EU method. These results confirm that it is not necessary to classify Rockwool fibres under UK and EU regulations.

ceiling panels guidance for use The exceptional performance of Firemaster Ceilings has made the use of stone wool ceiling panels a practical proposition for specifiers and contractors alike. However, the abuse of the walk on capacity of Firemaster Ceilings must be avoided and therefore the following guidelines must be strictly adhered to:
How the law appliesThe erection of insulated panel ceilings or subsequent maintenance and access operations come under health and safety law and this requires hazards to be identified and where possible, eliminated. Any residual risks should be assessed and safe systems of work developed to minimise them. Remember, having a safe system of work when undertaking work on a ceiling is a legal duty and should be a co-operative effort between Client, Contractor and Designer.
Provide dedicated and safe access onto the ceiling and ensure that all persons access the ceiling from these point(s) only. Whenever possible, access should be via a stair-tower. However, if ladders are used they should be tied at the top and extend at least 1.1m past the access point. Personnel must not jump or bounce on ceilings and should not gather in groups of more than two. Signs should be erected at all points of access.
Provision of access to maintain the roof Where access is required to the ceiling area to inspect or maintain plant, designated walk ways must be used. These could take the form of an independently supported walk way which gives access to the necessary plant. Where a walk way cannot be installed but access is still required, the ceiling must be protected with 6mm ply/hardboard to spread loads. These
boards should be fixed to the back of the ceiling panels with self-tapping screws and positioned:
Close to and running parallel with the ceiling suspension system. At the Perimeter of the ceiling where the ceilings panels are fixed back to the walls.
NB Should anything other than normal maintenance access be required, Youngman’s’ type walk boards should be used by all subcontractors at all times.
Fixing the ceiling Always fix ceiling panels in accordance with Eurobond’s recommendations, e.g. sequence of laying down the panels, number of fixings, etc. Never allow partial fixing only of ceiling panels. Each panel should be fully fixed, allowing progress of the work as it is laid down, with the correct number of fixings as required and system of
support. If any cut outs for penetrations over 100mm wide are required this must have prior approval of Eurobond.
Post construction maintenance Like any other product, Eurobond ceilings will perform better and for longer if you maintain them properly. But remember the hazards in maintaining a ceiling or using it for access can be greater than for constructing them. Do not allow any person access to a ceiling without vetting their skills and safety methods. Do not allow untrained employees to “pop up” for a quick look or to carry out quick repairs. Remember – Contact Eurobond if in doubt on any aspect of new ceiling construction or subsequent access. The Best Practice Guide for work on ceilings constructed with steel faced insulated composite panels is also available upon request.
