INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATEMIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME
A plan to implement the MYP for grades 6 through 10 at John Dickinson High School
Presentation Objectives• MYP Overview• Rationale for adding the Middle Years Programme at
Dickinson• Approval Process – We are proposing to begin the
program in August 2015• Student Selection• Logistics
Keywords• IBO – International Baccalaureate Organization• IB – International Baccalaureate• DP – Diploma Programme• MYP – Middle Years Programme• Head of School – Principal• MYP Certificate – The award presented to students who
successfully complete all requirements of the MYP
MYP Basics• The MYP is a whole-school program for grades 6 through
10• The MYP at Dickinson will begin as a selective enrollment
magnet program for 50 students in grades 6 through 8 (150 total)
• The MYP requires the study of at least two languages (language of instruction and additional language of choice) to support students in understanding their own cultures and those of others• Our students will study English and Either French or
Spanish• The MYP empowers students to participate in service
within the community
Rationale and IB 101• IB offers students an excellent curriculum and approach to
teaching and learning• The MYP will support and foster the growth and the
diversity of the DP already in place• We have the space to create a “school-within-a-school”
that will isolate MYP students from older high school students
• We have created a student selection process that we hope will make the MYP accessible to a variety of students from all parts of the district
