Although booth sales were down 15% compared to previous years (2016 is IBIE year), there was great excitment on the show floor.
Bakery Showcase 2016, featured new education programmes, enhanced B2B business opportunities and a new Knowledge Centre Feature to support Canada’s baking industry’s efforts in delivering innovative and nutritious
products. On the agenda on May 1, was the amazing "Road to Paris" story by Alan Dumonceaux, Captain of Bake Team Canada, as he relives his team's
triumphs in getting to the Baking World Cup.
On May 2, Harold Lloyd, who is well-known for his consumer studies, talkedabout productivity and how to build sales in an engaging presentation called"Holy Donuts Batman." Then, Lloyd lead a Baker Panel discussion on where
the industry is today and where it is heading.
On the final day May 3, Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director of McGill University's "Office of Science and Society," provided the latest in nutritional advice; and Globe and Mail columnist Leslie Beck, who is a best-selling author and registereddietician, talked about crafting a nutritional message and getting it heard.
Finally, our State of the Industry panel moderated by Dr. Joe Schwarczexplored how the baking industry in Canada and the U.S. are responding to
both consumers and governments regarding today’s food and nutrition challenges.
Room was packed for State of the Industry Panel offering Canadian and US baking industry perspectives (its a fine line).
Christine Cochran (GFF) and Robb MacKie (ABA) were part of the panel.
