An Indo-Israel collaborative venture

Christ University was born out of theeducational vision of St Kuriakose EliasChavara, an educationalist and socialreformer of the nineteenth century in SouthIndia. He founded the first Catholicindigenous congregation, Carmelites ofMary Immaculate (CMI), in 1831 whichadministers Christ University.

Established in 1969 as Christ College, itundertook path breaking initiatives inIndian higher education with theintroduction of innovative and moderncurricula, insistence on academic discipline,imparting of Holistic Education andadoption of global higher educationpractices with the support of creative anddedicated staff.

The University Grants Commission (UGC)of India conferred Autonomy to ChristCollege in 2004 and identified it as anInstitution with Potential for Excellence in2006. In 2008 under Section 3 of the UGCAct, 1956, the Ministry of Human ResourceDevelopment of the Govt. of India, declaredthe institution a Deemed to be University, inthe name and style of Christ University. Oneof the first institutions in India to beaccredited in 1998 by the NAAC, andsubsequently in 2004 and 2016, ChristUniversity has the top grade ‘A’ in the 4-point scale.

The multi-disciplinary University whichfocuses on teaching research and service,offers Bachelors to Doctoral programmes inhumanities, social sciences, science,commerce, management, engineering,education and law to over 18000 students.The campus is a living example for theharmonious multiculturalism with studentsfrom all the states of India and from around60 different countries. Christ Universitypublishes six peer-reviewed researchjournals and has published more than 300books in Kannada and English. A promoter ofsports, music and literary activities, it is anurturing ground for creative excellence.
