IGS-RH INTERNATIONAL MEMORIES

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF IGS-RH INTERNATIONAL !Founded in 1975, IGS-RH is the leader in HRM education in France with over 12 500 alumni working in HRM roles in companies in France and around the world. Since its inception, IGS-RH has had a pragmatic, hand-on approach to education in partnership with professional practitioners who bring real corporate experience to the classroom. Programs and curricula are constantly updated to meet corporate needs, and benefit from the feedback and input of a network of more than 8 000 partner companies. IGS-RH has always been at the forefront of HRM training and 87% of graduate starting salaries are 15% higher than average starting salaries in the field. IGS-RH offers study abroad opportunities for each of its international programs.

IGS-RH: A GLOBAL STRATEGYInternational development is no more a question, it is a necessity: For 6 years now, our network of corporate executives indicated that they were seeking to hire business school graduates familiar with HR policies in foreign subsidiaries and overseas divisions of international companies in order to manage international employee mobility.

In examining the characteristics which helped our graduates in their international job searches, we observed that candidates were evaluated on the following factors, in addition to personality:

• Professional fluency in English, in addition to French: this was a pre-requisite. Competency in a third language was also a real advantage. “I would rather hire a mid-range HR manager with excellent language skills than a French superstar who has difficulties in an English-speaking environment.” Pierre Lebleu – Director of Human Resources at International Idea, Stockholm.

• Comprehension of cultural differences, and challenges held by globalization.

• “Intercultural” training and ability to compare and contrast international HR policies and procedures especially acquired during extended study or professional experience abroad.

• Intellectual curiosity and geographic mobility which contribute to an understanding of how to manage cultural differences from an HR perspective.

All these reasons have encouraged us, at IGS-RH to develop for past six years, international programs and strong partnerships which allow our students to live immersive experiences in other cultures from the very first year of studies through semester abroad programs and student internships abroad. Moreover, in the final year of the program, students with excellent English language skills are offered the opportunity to pursue a MSc. in International HR Management in either London or Madrid through a joint degree programme.

To prepare international exchange, our teaching staff includes native speakers of English from around the world, helping students to understand HR management in an international context and compare/contrast policies and procedures in France with practices abroad.

That’s why, all IGS-RH students acquire professional efficiency in English during their studies, irrespective of their initial language skills. The teaching methods we have put in place (small classes of students grouped according to ability) and the investment in programs, including mentoring, e-learning, public speaking exercises in English and “Business English” classes allow our students to achieve a minimum of 785/990 by the time they graduate (measures professional language fluency).

A recent study by “Campus France” shows that «in 2015, only 73,400 French students were enrolled at universities abroad, or 3.5 % of the 2.1 million French students in France » (Le Monde, March 24, 2016).

IGS-RH is the only business school in France offering a joint degree programme in HR and the students who complete this 15-month program are sought after by recruiters.

The IGS-RH students who have completed this program worked hard and IGS-RH is very proud of their success!

While in Ireland, we could not miss such a show ? We went in a hotel of the city center and we watched the Celtic singers, and dancers performing in their traditional outfits, it was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland.”

“Finland is the place where I experienced a « snow-bath » by -20°C just after a sauna, where I saw the northern lights from my bedroom and where I finally met Santa Claus. Beyond unforgettable memories, studying in Jyväskylä offered me the opportunity to discover a new way of life, a new culture and true diversity. It helped me to develop a cosmopolitan perspective which should be helpful for working in HR in a globalized world. Learning methods based on interaction, communication and students finding solution as a group make Finland’s education system one of the best in the world.Because this exchange program exceeded all my expectations, I’m now on my way for an international Master with IGS-RH Paris and Universidad Carlos III of Madrid” !”

“Having professional experience, I wanted to broaden my international experience and deepen my HR expertise. I decided to come to France to join a high level HR school: IGS-RH, the best school directly dedicated to HR. It has a high standard of teaching, teachers are professionals in their field, and it zooms in HR trends and practices. Moreover, with its partnerships with renowned universities, UC3M, is a major asset for anyone who wants to work in an international environment. The double degree experience extends my network, meeting with different countries, cultures and people; allows to widen my expertise - with the Madrid track being more of a combination “HR - Business School”-, providing larger insights into academics approaches, different types of study environments, teaching and learning styles; and improves my confidence to work in this complex environment, starting with my final internship as HR Business Partner at Atos International.IGS is the most suitable option for my professional project and surely for anyone looking for an international HR career.”

“Companies need Human Resources managers who are able to recruit international talent, implement processes in many di f ferent countries (international mobility, learning and development…) and understand diversity and multicultural

environments. In addition to the challenges specific to Human Resources, companies need HR managers who are able to understand business strategy and manage global change. Human Resources managers with a global outlook are very much in demand, and a good command of English is essential for all employers. Whether your enterprise is local or global – located in France or in Poland – being able to work efficiently in English will greatly increase your professional opportunities and career potential!”

Isabelle MICHEL MAGYAR Engagement & Diversity VP SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC

“My experience in China was a real career-booster. It helped me to grow and mature and to learn to be open to different cultures, work habits and management systems. As an overseas employee, it can actually be easier to get job postings with responsibility

and to move ahead quickly. Each time I returned to France, I was sought-after by headhunters in spite of the difficult job market. Today, many large companies require international experience for the top jobs. As an HR manager, I see that candidates with international experience are adaptable, able to work independently and ready to take the initiative.”

Julie HERREMAN Alumni 2003 HR Director Sandro

« The world is globalized and digitalized; borders are increasingly irrelevant and companies are growing faster in Latin America and Asia than in Europe, which is more mature. Success in this environment requires a taste for adventure. The decision to accept an

expatriation offer means leaving behind family, friends and a familiar environment; this is easier in theory than in practice. My decision to accept an offer in New York meant personal sacrifice, but I would do it again without hesitating”

Jérémy MAILLY Alumni 2003, Group HR VP, MOM Groupe Materne Mont Blanc

“Over the next few years, companies wishing to remain competitive can’t afford to limit themselves to the domestic market. This is a real challenge for future HR managers who will need to take into consideration employees of different cultures and

value systems. Many CEO’s and shareholders are beginning to integrate these factors into their strategy; they understand that they will need the best teams and top talent in order to compete”

“Doing the IGS/LSBU programme was an amazing experience. During my time in London, I have discovered a lot about different cultures, and not just the British. It allowed me to discover another way of living, completely different from what. I was used to in

France (especially the apartment sharing). It was also been rewarding for me to follow classes entirely in English, taught by recognised HR professionals. Finally, I don’t think I would have had the opportunity to find a job in London if I had not undertaken this programme.”

Alexis CAIGNARTAlumni 2016, HR Officer, Iron Web Ltd

“I chose the IGSRH’s international program with the conviction that Human Resources must have a crucial role in the globalization today. Each student who would like to access at top management in this field will find essential assets in this double

experience: open minded, global business culture, proficiency in professional English, critical basis in HR strategy. Having two international recognized diplomas and of an international network are also worthy elements on the labor market. The double degree LSBU - IGS helped me to gain the confidence, knowledge and tools necessary to succeed in my international HR mission. I was recruited as an intern at Orange thanks to my legal profile, maintained at IGS-RH, and my experience in London at LSBU. As an International Mobility Coordinator, I had the opportunity to work on a very versatile role, and I found in practiced a lot of the themes I studied during my Master. At the end of my internship, I joined Accenture International Mobility teams and worked worldwide to align mobility procedures with global business objectives. Then I decided to join the Société Générale Bank as a VIE for a generalist mission in Belgrade, Serbia, including career & skill development, HR strategies implementation and work-life balance management. This is a great opportunity to expand my competencies in different HR fields, still at an international level.“

Dimitri PACAIL, Alumni 2014, HR Business Partner SOCIETE GENERALE Serbie

“I studied HR at IGSRH for 2 years and found the international program particularly relevant for its strategic dimension. This program is a requirement for all future HR managers. The high standards of teaching - with speakers such as Bruno Carlier (Group

Head of Compensation and Benefits BNP Paribas 1996 to 2009) – provide students with credentials to successfully compete in a global labour market. I was hired in London for a permanent contract as Reward Analyst at Mclagan right after my internship there. Mclagan (Aon Hewitt group) is the leading Performance/ Reward consulting and benchmarking firm for the financial industry. I now work closely with the French financial services firms globally delivering fact-based advice for the business and HR functions.”
