ABSTRACT

Increasing demand for passenger and freight transport in urban areas is a challenge for governments and transport authorities in India. Energy use, space use, road safety, air quality and noise pollution are a few of the road transport–related issues that Indian cities have to cope with. Every day, our mayors and councillors are concerned about finding solutions to urban transport problems that do not slow down the local economy but bring local communities to prosperity. Step by step, Indian cities are establishing an Indian model for urban transport solutions. It has been an interesting time, working against a backdrop of Indian, national and local policies to tackle the economic crisis. It was also a time when the Indians prepared decisive policy documents in the field of transport, and urban transport in particular (the Urban Mobility Action Plan). Keywords: challenges, India, new innovations, road networks, solutions for tomorrow INTRODUCTION Transportation system is very large in India. Every year this sector contributed very much in development. Road transportation is very important in transportation system for development of India. The main objective of this study is to carry out the main challenges and all about transportation of India. We will also discuss about Design and new Innovations in Transportation system in India. In this paper a brief discussion will be about the future of transportation finding solutions for tomorrow’s world. Transport is an important part of Indian economy. As we are developing with time and now we have different type of transportation system in India such as by air, water, train and road. Good connectivity between rural and urban areas is also a reason of economic

growth and Indian growing economy has witnessed a rise in demand for transportation and services.[1–4] However, the sector has not been able to keep pace with rising demand and is proving to be a drag on the economy. Major improvements in the sector are required to support the country's continued economic growth and to reduce poverty. Public transport remains the primary mode of transport for most of the livelihood in India, and India's public transport systems are among the most heavily used in the world. India's rail network is the 4th longest and the most heavily used system in the world, transporting 8,224 million passengers and over 969 million tones of freight annually, as of 2012.

Influence of Moisture Damage on Resilient Modulus of Asphalt Concrete

Saad Issa Sarsam*, Hanan Kadim Husain

Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, Iraq

ABSTRACT

Deterioration of asphalt concrete pavement by the action of moisture damage is a major problem facing the serviceability and durability of flexible pavement, it starts with micro cracking of the pavement surface due to load repetitions, and followed by stripping and disintegration of pavement layer. In this investigation, the influence of moisture damage on resilient modulus of asphalt concrete had been assessed under repeated tensile and shear stresses. Asphalt concrete specimens have been prepared at optimum asphalt content, and at an additional 0.5% asphalt above and below the optimum. Specimens were divided into two groups, the first group was subjected to repeat tensile and shear under constant stress for specific load repetitions to initiate micro cracks. The second group was subjected to moisture damage cycle, then it was tested as the first group. It was concluded that Moisture damage causes reduction in resilient modulus by (20, 33, 16.5) % after 50 load repetitions while it decreases by (33, 30, 24) % after 500 load repetitions for (4.4, 4.9, 5.4) % asphalt content respectively when tested by ITS. The resilient modulus decreases (44, 14, 25) % after 50 load repetitions while it decreases by (40, 16.5, 24) % after 500 load repetitions for (4.4, 4.9, 5.4) % asphalt content respectively when tested by PSS after moisture damage. The resilient modulus when tested by (ITS) is 10 folds higher than that when tested by (PSS). Optimum asphalt content exhibit high resistance to moisture damage for ITS and PSS test conditions.

Keywords: asphalt concrete, resilient modulus, moisture damage INTRODUCTION Moisture damage is the loss of strength and durability in asphalt concrete mixtures due to the effect of moisture vapour. It tends to accelerate the presence of the distress types such as disintegration and pot holes. It was stated in ref.[1] that the indirect tensile strength (ITS) and tensile strength ratio (TSR) test are conducted to evaluate the moisture susceptibility of an asphalt mixture. The impact of moisture damage on asphalt concrete mix properties was investigated in ref.[2] It was concluded that the moisture - damaged mix has lower resistance to permanent deformation by 93% as compared with the control mixture. It was stated in ref.[3] in the experimental

results that, in general, the mixes subjected to moisture damage give low resistance to indirect tensile strength and low resilient modulus at 40 °C, by (19%, 21%), respectively as compared with reference mixture. A study in ref.[4] concluded that the impact of moisture conditioning of asphalt concrete is lowering the indirect tensile strength and punching shearby (19% and 33%) respectively as compared with un-condition mix. The increase in asphalt content from the optimum to 0.5% above optimum leads to decrease the tensile and shear strength after the impact of moisture damage by 23% and 38%

INTRODUCTION Transport is the basic for the ordinary working of economy and the general public. Throughout the most recent couple of decades there is seen the start, advancement, arrangement and gigantic development in transport framework and huge impact of these improvements in our general public and life. Consequently we can rethink transport framework as ITS. Presently a day's not just considerate and mechanical building ranges manage innovative work of transportation. Or maybe the software engineering designing ideas, for example, Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, correspondence, web and numerous other rising building and data sciences regions turn into the center of ITS. In this manner, ITS is characterized as the arrangement of uses which are progress and mean to apply clever data and correspondence

advancements keeping in mind the end goal to give administrations to transport and movement administration. ITS plays a vital.[1,2] part in decreasing numerous issues like air contamination, long travel time, fuel utilization, activity clog and mischances, which have been expanded because of development in populace. ITS associations are doing innumerable endeavors with a specific end goal to discover answers for these basic issues by creating movement correspondence and vehicular networking 1,2. Movement control and administration worldview is isolated into 5 particular phases3. In the underlying stage PCs are extensive in size and costly. Along these lines entire activity administration is done utilizing unified model. In the second stage

Comparative Modeling of Pavement Surface Texture Variables Using ANN and SPSS Software

Saad Issa Sarsam*, Basim Hussein Al-Obaydi, Huda Nadhr Al-Shareef

Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, Baghdad, Iraq

ABSTRACT

The health of Roadway pavement surface is considered as one of the major issues for safe driving. Pavement surface condition is usually referred to micro and macro textures which enhances the friction between the pavement surface and vehicular tires, while it provides a proper drainage for heavy rainfall water. Measurement of the surface texture is not yet standardized, and many different techniques are implemented by various road agencies around the world based on the availability of equipment’s, skilled technicians’ and funds. An attempt has been made in this investigation to model the surface macro texture measured from sand patch method (SPM), and the surface micro texture measured from out flow time (OFT) and British pendulum number (BPN) testing techniques. Flexible and rigid pavement surfaces have been investigated in this work. A total of 300 testing locations have been selected, and the three testing procedures were conducted for each location. The modeling was conducted by implementation of the statistical package (SPSS-19) and the artificial neural network package (ANN). Data were fed to the packages and the correlation of each testing method with the other two methods have been obtained through statistical analysis. It was concluded that (ANN) software is more reliable in providing the correlation between the testing techniques implemented as compared to (SPSS-19) software. Modeling could provide an instant determination of pavement surface health when the advanced testing techniques are scares. Keywords: ANN, asphalt concrete, modeling, rigid pavement, SPSS, surface texture INTRODUCTION Roadway pavement surface is responsible of providing the required skid resistance for vehicular wheel especially at rainy season, while it should control the noise emission to a reasonable level which is accepted by environment protection agency EPA. Such requirements are supported by the macro and micro surface textures.[1] The roadway surface texture should be rough enough to provide the skid resistance as well as enhancing the proper drainage of heavy rain fall water, on the other hand, the roadway surface texture should be smooth enough to furnish the required silence and noise reduction especially when the roadway

passes residential areas.[2] Measurement of the surface texture is not yet standardized, and many different techniques are implemented by various road agencies around the world based on the availability of equipment’s, skilled technicians’ and funds. The most common test methods for determining pavement surface texture were labor intensive and time-consuming. The pavement surface texture has been investigated by[3] using three texture measurement techniques namely (sand patch, outflow time, and Pendulum

Wild Owls’ Foraging Efficiency Reduces Due to Traffic Noise

Ankita Singh* Department of Biotechnology, Amity University, India

ABSTRACT

A group of specialists has found that wild owls searching effectiveness decreases because of Traffic clamor by up to 89 percent. The group's reality first study analyzed how diverse levels of such clamor influence the chasing productivity of these nighttime predators, which utilize a sharp sound-related sense to find prey in the obscurity. Keywords: foraging, traffic noise RESEARCH As transportation systems quickly create far and wide, concerns have been uplifting over the antagonistic impacts of movement commotion on wild creatures, especially "acoustic predators," which rely on upon their intense feeling of hearing to catch prey. In any case, as it is hard to watch wild owls' evening time scavenging exercises, the theory that movement commotion decreases the chasing productivity of acoustic predators was unconfirmed preceding this study.[1]

Source: Wikipedia.

The group of scientists from Hokkaido University's Graduate School of Agriculture, the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, and California Polytechnic State University built up a

simulated prey stirring sound to draw in owls and therefore encourage perception of the feathered creatures' evening time chasing interests. From December 2014 to March 2015, the group led tests at 103 areas in Yufutsu Plain in Hokkaido and Sendai Plain in Miyagi Prefecture - both in northern Japan - where owls overwinter. In the examinations, analysts investigated the scrounging exercises of 78 owls (45 short-eared owls and 33 since a long time ago eared owls) while playing back various levels of recorded activity commotion and a steady level of a simulated prey stirring sound. The analyses demonstrated that the rate of owls recognizing the simulated sound lessened by 17 percent even at the most minimal movement commotion level of 40dB (comparable to the clamor level of a calm local location), while the rate dropped by 89 percent at the most elevated commotion level of 80dB (like the commotion level inside a train). The group evaluates that the impacts of movement clamor on owls' capacity to distinguish prey stretches out similarly as 120 meters from a street, which is more distant than already suspected. A past study utilizing

hostage bats demonstrated that their
