• International treaty organization

• Established in 1955

• Headquarters (the BIML) in Paris, France

• Aim is to harmonize metrological legislation worldwide

• Currently 59 Member States and 67 Corresponding Members

• 1956: Harmonization of terminology is one of the items on the first work plan of the OIML

• 1961: The CIML starts to develop the Vocabulary of legal metrology (VML)

• 1969: First edition of the VML

• 1984: First edition of the VIM (ISO/TAG 4)

• 2000: First edition of the VIML (OIML)

• 2008: Third edition of the VIM (JCGM)

• 2013: Second edition of the VIML (OIML)

• Currently: JCGM develops fourth edition of the VIM

OIML TC 1: Terminology

• Poland is responsible for the secretariat(Dr Jerzy Borzyminski)

• The work on the development of the first edition of the VML (1961-1969) was led by Dr Jan Obalski (1898-1968)

• Dr Obalski was appointed “Member of Honor” of the CIML

• Currently, TC 1 has a project to develop an electronic vocabulary• Entries from the 2013 edition of the VIML

• Additional terms validated by a validation team (TVT)
