There is now some important information that you need to know when you arrive in Australia. Please note the following important arrival information: Our main Accommodation Services Office is located within Menzies College and open from 9am – 7pm Monday–Friday, and 9am – 5pm Saturday-Sunday. When the main office is not open to help you with your enquiries and check-ins we have an after-hours service available called the Night Manager. The Night Manager is contactable by phone from 5pm – 9am Monday – Friday and 5pm – 9am Weekends. If you arrive after hours at the Melbourne Campus, you will need to ensure that you get dropped off at your student residence. Chisholm, Glenn and Menzies Colleges are all located inside the La Trobe campus and Graduate House and University Lodge are located very close on the outskirts (a five minute walk from campus). Do remember that your room will be a very plain and empty space when you first arrive, but we encourage you to make your room your own by adding posters and photos to brighten the area. You may also notice that there are not many students around the campus when you first check-in. This is because the academic semester hasn’t yet started and many students won’t move in until late February. However, to ensure you have the best possible experience when you first arrive, we have dedicated International Student Ambassadors to assist you in acclimatising to the campus and responsible for facilitating a vast array of exciting and fun activities specifically designed to get you out and about around Melbourne and meeting new people (internationals and local Australians). GLENN COLLEGEHello my name is Anna. Firstly welcome to Australia and the beautiful city of Melbourne.

I will be here to help you fit into college life at Glenn and be here to answer any questions or worries you may have about college or La Trobe. I understand that living abroad can be quite scary and overwhelming but living at Glenn College is a fantastic and fun experience. We are here to make you feel at home at College and to make the transition to living in Australia an easy one. I look forward to meeting all of you, ready to start one of the best experiences of your life.

Hi everyone and a huge welcome to Glenn College! My name is Jessica and I have lived at Glenn for a year now and have truly loved every moment of my time here.

Being an international student has its challenges but I will be here during the year to help you settle into Australia and the college community. I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you, and I hope you’re all ready for a great year ahead. Expect your time at Glenn to be filled with new friends and endless amounts of great memories. See you soon!

MENZIES COLLEGEHi, my name's Bronte and I can't wait to meet you, help you settle in and get involved in your new college life.

Living on Menzies College, your floor will soon become your family and you'll make lifelong friends! Get ready for an experience of a lifetime. See you soon!

Hey guys. My name is Jarryd Biffin. Congratulations on being accepted to La Trobe University, and for taking the huge challenge of studying abroad!

My last two years on Menzies College have been the best and most exciting times of my life and I can’t wait for you all to arrive so we can continue the adventure together! The other International Ambassadors and I are here to make sure that you fit straight into college life and can make the best out of your Australian adventure. Please feel free to contact Accommodation Services if you have any questions (They’re always happy to help) and we can’t wait to see all your smiling faces in February!

CHISHOLM COLLEGEHey guys. Congratulations on making the leap to study abroad. My name is Alexandrea (Alex) Burton.

I come from a small country town and big family, so I'd like to think of myself as being very approachable, if you’re having trouble with anything, or just want to say 'hi' don't hesitate. During my schooling my family has had tonnes of exchange students live with us and this has provided me with an insight as to what moving and living in Australia is all about. I have loved living on Chisholm College this year. As this was the first time for many (including myself) to move out of home, I felt that the community spirit of college life was amazing and everyone was very welcoming. I have made friendships which will last a life time and I'm sure that when you come, you will too. I, as well as the other International Ambassador's will help you get involved in events and really embrace the Australian culture. It's going to be an excellent year full of unforgettable memories. Feel free to add me on Facebook. I can't wait to meet you all!

Hi everyone, my name is Michael. First off, I would like to welcome you to Chisholm as an International Student!

Moving out of home myself in 2014 from a relatively small town, I can understand the challenges that you may face living in a city like Melbourne, which is why I am here to assist you and make you feel right at home. Living at Chisholm is an amazing experience, you will make friends that you will never forget, assimilate into Australian culture and experience Melbourne through the eyes of a university student. Looking forward to meeting you all!

HELPFUL INFORMATION

Academic AssistanceAll the colleges within Accommodation Services are academic colleges and have programs in place to help you achieve your potential.

For first year students we have a team of Study Mentors. Mentors run Study Focus Groups in different discipline areas, on Monday evenings. You are welcome to call on the Mentors for advice, or you may join in a Study Focus Group for all the support it offers.

Experienced students are another source of support in your subjects. The Accommodation Services Colleges are helpful kinds of places. Look out students on your floor, annexe or tower in your college who study the same subjects. They will be more than willing to help you.

Accommodation Services also provides a fantastic textbook buying scheme to help you cope with the high cost of text books. Fill out the form at Accommodation Services and we can supply you with recommended texts, on loan.

We encourage you to make the most of all the Accommodation Services residences have to offer. In addition, the University has sources of academic support. Advisers of the Language and Academic Skills Units help students with their academic adjustment.
