A10-dayexperiencethatprovides internationalstudentswith theopportunityofworkingwithan interdisciplinary teammade up of students and faculty from Universidad Centroamericanaandmembers ofNicaraguan communities onpublic health issues.Teamswork ondeveloping,implementing,andevaluatingsustainablesolutionsforcommunity-identifiedhealthissues.StudentsarehousedinUniversity–affiliatedhousing,allmealsandlocaltransportationareprovidedandavarietyofculturalexperiencesareincluded.

Thesummer intensive languageandcultureprogramoffersstudents theopportunity tostudylanguageintensivelythroughclasswork,lecture,seminars,fieldexcursions,andculturalevents.The study of Latin American culture is integrated into language instruction and incorporateshistorical,anthropological,politicalandeconomicdimensions.TheprogramistaughtcompletelyinSpanishwithhomestayfamilylodgingtomaximizeopportunitiesfororalfluency.

A threeweek course, taught in English,which studies the unique and interesting challenges inconservation and environmental and economic sustainability faced by Nicaragua.The studentsparticipating in thecourse travel todifferentecosystemswhere theyareable toexamine issuesrelatedtoenvironmentalresourcemanagementanditsimpactoncommunities,aswellasexploringcommunitybasedsolutionstosustainableresourcemanagement.Thecoursetopicsarebiodiversityconservation indryandcloud forests,communitybasedresourcemanagementandmangroves,peopleandshellfish.
