History of West Sumatera

West Sumatra (Indonesian:Sumatera Barat, abbreviated toSumbar) is a province of Indonesia.It lies on the west coast of theisland Sumatra. It includes theMentawai Islands off the coast. Thecapital of the province is Padang.

West Sumatra lies in the middle ofthe western coast of Sumatra whichfaces the Indian Ocean. The area ofWest Sumatra is around 42,297.30km². Geographic features includeplains, mountainous volcanichighlands formed by the Barisanmountain range that runs fromnorth-west to south-east, and anoffshore island archipelago calledthe Mentawai Islands.

Demographic

Indonesia’s population is around 230 millionwhich comprises to 250-300 ethnic groupsthat have their own language and dialectsbut are united with Bahasa Indonesia(Indonesians), the national languagespoken throughout the archipelago.

Religious freedom is stipulated in theIndonesian constitution, but the governmentofficially recognizes only six religions: Islam,Protestantism, Roman Catholicism, Hinduism,Buddhism, and Confucianism. Although it isnot an Islamic state, Indonesia is theworld's most populous Muslim-majoritynation, with over 80% of the population isMuslim, 8.7% is Christian, 3% are Hindu, and1.8% Buddhist or other.

Foods

Indonesian cuisine varies by region and is based on Chinese,European, Middle Eastern, and Indian precedents. Rice is the mainstaple food and is served with side dishes of meat and vegetables.

Spices (notably chili), coconut milk, fish and chicken are fundamentalingredients of Indonesian food.

Climate

Lying along the equator, Indonesia has a tropical climate. Theeast monsoon from June to September brings dry weather

while the west monsoon from December to March is moisture-laden bringing rain.

Temperatures vary little throughout the year. The averagedaily temperature range is 26–30 °C (79–86 °F).

AIESEC Andalas University

Established since July 27th 1993, AIESEC Universitas Andalas (UNAND) sofar, known as the only Local Committee in Indonesia that is placed outsideJava. AIESEC UNAND has 3 principles that reflect the big picture of howAIESEC UNAND work, they are Courtesy (as we living up the values of ourlocal culture), Integrity (trust and deliver the quality) and Family (strong familybond toward every AIESEC UNAND generation/ORI).

Twenty years have passed, AIESEC UNAND will never stop refilling theenergy to do more and gain more to create a big impact for this organizationand society and living the AIESEC values.

ChildrenDescription: 1. Intern will give learning in orphanage, primary schooland disable school about handy craft.

2. Intern will share about countrys culture and doingactivities about basic English through song and gameswith orphans and student in orphanage and disabledschool.

3. Intern will involve in every project events by doingsuch as rural area visit.

4. Be involved in every AIESEC UNANDs events such asexchange promotion, global village, etc.

5. Intern will share his/her learning and experienceabout literacy issue in Indonesia through socialmedia/blog.

1. Interns will visit SME (Small MediumEnterprise) to analyze the SWOT (Strength,Weakness, Opportunity, Treath), give theperspective by doing suggestion to SME.Interns have to evaluate the suggestionthat already did each work.

2. Interns will collaborate with OC's inProject event :(Preparation & Execution)

3. Interns will share about currentcondition of Entrepreneurship in theircountry and also empower students andparticpants to have knowledge andcourage to start their business.Interns have to create short termbusiness(Preparation & Execution) and practical itwith Youth

Description: 1. Being global volunteer for social activities to helppeople especially unlucky minang children aboutcaring on education and culture

2. Sharing culture from the intern's home country byshowing attractive video, and bring traditional stufffrom interns home country.

3. Creating a lot of activities related about educationaland cultural activities such as showing an educatedvideo or games to empower people especiallychildren about their potential.

4. Be involved in every AIESEC UNANDs events suchas fun trip, exchange promotion, Global Village, etc.

5. Having time with other interns to visit sometraditional culture and place to learn about Minangculture

6. Intern will share his/her learning and experienceabout cultural understanding issue in Indonesiathrough social media/blog.
