The Gospel and the Present Time

Two thousand years after the epoch of Christ, His message has spread across the world, but still signs of misunderstanding persist regarding His Teachings, even amongst those who wait and announce His return.

Spiritism is based on the moral maxims of Christ. These are clearly established in the inaugural work of ‘The Spirits’ Book’ and its sequence in a specific book by Allan Kardec: The Gospel According to Spiritism. Among Spiritists every effort is made towards moral and spiritual improvement, as well as actions on behalf of others, such as traditional welfare institutions.

In a complex world, there are many technical, technological, human and social forms of progress, but there are still shocking contrasts and many uncertainties. Hence, even to the expectation of a magic solution. To be sure, we are living the "signs of the times" predicted since the Apostles. Whether there are or will be disasters, these are natural occurrences in the physical evolution of our planet and a field of study for geology, meteorology, ecology, etc.. Religion has the mission of collaborating with mankind, in educational and preventive actions to avoid psychological, spiritual, or behavioural tragedies.

The new supreme law brought by Christ - to respect and support our neighbour - should be the basis for a new society having respect for life in its various manifestations, including respect for others, interpersonal relationships within human diversity and respect for nature. In a climate of transition and uncertainty Mankind must become aware of its spiritual nature and the practical consequences – both individual and social - to stand as an incarnate Spirit and adopt the Christian message.

Christ presented the basis for a new era two thousand years before the period of transition began. Everything indicates that we live in the throes of a world of disrespect and that, even in difficult situations that may present themselves, they herald the dawn of a new day for humanity.

Hence the importance of the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the launching of The Gospel According to Spiritism, so we are working for the study and dissemination of the works of the Codifier!

EUROPEAN COORDINATION DEPARTAMENT

The city of Stuttgart, Germany, hosted representatives from fourteen European countries and visitors from Brazil on 25th, 26th and 27th October 2013, for the 14th Meeting of the Coordination Department of the International Spiritist Council for Europe. During the event there was a business meeting that addressed the following topics: information about the activities of the ISC (2012-13); development of EDICEI Europe; websites and social networks; the Campaign "Love of Life"; General Assembly of the ISC, scheduled for Portugal (2014); information on the preparation of 8th World Spiritist Congress (Portugal 2016); implementation of the Plan for Stimulating the Activities of the ISC and a proposal for the European Meeting 2014 to be held in English. At the opening of the meeting Charles Kempf gave a very instructive talk. Then Elsa Rossi talked about the theme "Love of Life". On the Sunday Jorge Godinho (a worker in Switzerland) and Rosenite Alves (a worker in France) gave a joint seminar about Mediumship. All activities were held at the headquarters of the German Spiritist Union. The meeting was directed by the General Secretary of the ISC, Charles Kempf, with the assistance of César Antonio Perri de Carvalho and Elsa Rossi, being the 1st and 2nd Secretaries of the ISC respectively. Present were Representatives of the following countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Spain, France, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland. The person responsible for EDICEI Europe also attended. The next meeting of the Coordination Department of the ISC-Europe will be held in 2015 in Ireland.

Please make notes in your diary: The next General Meeting of the ISC (all countries) has been scheduled for 3rd, 4th and 5th October 2014 in the city of Leiria. Thus, countries can now get organised in order to be present in Portugal

SOUTH AMERICAN COORDINATION DEPARTMENT

On 13th September 2013 in Asunción, Paraguay, with the assistance of more than 110 South American Spiritist workers, the 5th Meeting of South America (CIS) was held in its new format, accomplished through workshops on seven core activities within Spiritist Centres. The event was held with full approval and participation from the South American countries and their various Spiritist Movements. The slogan for this event was “For the Unification of the Spiritist Teachings through Work, Solidarity and Tolerance”. Studies on modules such as mediumship, spiritual assistance, social promotion and education for teenagers were developed. The subjects covered will serve as a Spiritist work plan in these topics for the South American Movement, that will have continuity in subsequent Spiritist meetings throughout South America.

Continuing in this theme, a new commitment will take place in Brasilia between 7th- 9th March 2014, during which the ISC, in its area of South America, will organise a Theoretical and Practical Training Course for the basic activities of Spiritist Centres, through seminars, training and integration. This course for South American Spiritist workers is aimed at workers previously certified and registered with the recognised movements in their countries and subsequently integrated into the ISC .

THE GERMAN SPIRITIST UNION

The 14th Annual General Meeting of the European Coordination Department of ISC was successfully held in Stuttgart from 25th to 27th October 2013 (See full story in the International Spiritist Council report). Participation of the UEA with a stand at the International Spiritist Medical Congress, held in Bonn, where the 4th Edition of the Spiritist Magazine was presented in German, with an article on "Mediumship". The 11th Gathering of German Spiritists Groups was held very successfully on 16th and

17th November in Hamburg. The Fraternal Group of Spiritist Studies ‘Sister Sheila’, from Hamburg sponsored the event. There were approximately eighty

people present, comprising Brazilians and Germans, Spiritists and non-Spiritists, amongst which were representatives from various German Spiritists Groups. The central theme of the event was “The New Generation – their vision of the world of regeneration according to Spiritism”. There was great happiness with the very active participation of young people from the Department of Education for Children and Teenagers, from the Spiritist Centre Irmã Sheila. Some lectures were given about various inhabited worlds and their characteristics, with finally a view of Earth as a planet in phase of transition into a World of Regeneration. There was also dancing by these young Spiritists and a presentation of a musical video composed by one of them. Also a beautiful caricature drawing about the new generation. This was a very remarkable and special moment that will be forever recorded in the hearts of all who attended. On this same occasion the German Spiritist Union celebrated its 10th anniversary of existence. This was the opportunity to show the pathway taken by the UEA over the years, through photos and details demonstrated by Maria Gekeler, President of the UEA. A General Meeting of the GSU was held on Sunday 17th November. The UEA/DSV has invited all teachers, workers and directors of the German Spiritist Groups and neighbouring countries, to participate in a ‘Course on Aptitude’ that will be given on 15th & 16th February 2014 by the Department of CEE of the ISC. THE ARGENTINE SPIRITIST CONFEDERATION

In the “Uranium Room” of the Argentine Spiritist Confederation on 3rd December 2013, the closing ceremony was held for the Courses that had been given at the Institute for Spiritist Education. Certificates of Attendance were given to the 73 students that had participated regularly during the period of the Courses. On 16th & 17th November representatives from the Argentine Spiritist Confederation travelled to the beautiful town of Rosário, near to Santa Fé, for the purpose of spreading the Spiritist Teachings. About 30 people attended the talks with interest and they had the opportunity to ask questions as well as buy Spiritist books, that were offered for sale by workers from the CEA bookshop.

Mrs Miriam Racca, President of the Spiritist Centre, opened the proceedings with a welcome, followed by the President of CEA who presented the fundamental Teachings through a talk entitled “A Programme of Support for Basic Activities in Spiritist Groups”. The Federal Council of the Confederation has recently approved this Course.

On 10th November 2013, Gustavo Martínez, representing the Argentine Spiritist Confederation, had the happy task of visiting the members of the “Light, Peace and Union Spiritist Centre” in Lobería, close to Buenos Aires, shortly before they completed 60 years of foundation. During this event the President of CEA, together with an important delegation from the Southern Spiritist Federation in the proximity of Buenos Aires (FESBA), namely Alicia Menna (President), Jorge Moltó (Vice-Presidente) and Macelo Rodríguez (Treasurer) who had travelled from the Mar del Plata, received a very warm welcome.

On 24th November 2013 there was Training for Spiritist Educators, to work with children and teenagers organised by CEE and USB. Indeed, the moral values of Spiritism help young people to grow, to develop critical thinking and learn how to get along in society.

The 6th Congress on Medicine and Spirituality ended successfully in the Francophone Movement, with lectures by doctors, psychologists and researchers in the field of quantum physics, debating issues that go beyond the brain. Doctors from AME-International, and from Canada, Dr. Mario Beauregard.

THE BRAZILIAN SPIRITIST FEDERATION

130th Anniversary of FEB

The Brazilian Spiritist Federation completed 130 years on the 2nd January. Celebrations began with several opening ceremonies at headquarters in Brasília, during the meeting of the NCF on 8th November... The Cultural Space of FEB is a milestone in art and culture in the Federal Capital. It has an exhibition on "The life and work of Chico Xavier", opening on this day with historical imagery alluding to this medium from Minas Gerais, with manuscripts from Kardec and items about the history of FEB. A playroom and a space for snacks

were also inaugurated on the same day. The event was attended by the Directors of FEB, authorities from the Federal District and members the CFN of FEB. The President of FEB signed cove-

nants with the Canuto Abreu Institute (São Paulo) and the Bookstore Francisco Candido Xa-vier (Uberaba).

On 30th Novem-ber there was the inau-guration of the exhibition alluding to the 130 years of FEB at its Regional Headquarters, in the centre of Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of Their President, directors and collaborators. Also present were the leaders of the Spiritist Council of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the Military Cross Spiritists, the President of the Spiritist Federation of Bahia, André Luiz Peixinho and the general public who came to give prestige to the Seminar developed by the latter on the theme "The Spiritist Concept for Education". At the headquarters of FEB in Brasilia a public lecture took place at 4pm on Sunday 19th January, with Haroldo Dutra Dias, on the theme "150 years of The Gospel According to Spiritism and 130 years of FEB". On Saturday 1st February at 10:30am, there was a public talk given by the President of FEB, César Antonio Perri de Carvalho, on the theme "130 years of FEB and 180 years of

the birth of Bittencourt Sampaio".

Great Christmas Concert

On the night of 15th December, the Brazilian Spiritist Federation Auditorium was crowded for the presentation of the Christmas Concert of the Grand Spiritist Choir of the Federal District, being a realisation of the Unicanto Choir, with support from FEDF and FEB. Seven Choirs took part all together. The Presidents of FEB and FEDF offered the opening and closing prayers respectively.

FEB - International Visits

The President and directors of FEB, received visits from international leaders in Brasilia during December: Alípio González, responsible for

publishing Mensaje Fraternal; Elsa Rossi, President of the British Union of Spiritist Society; Charles Kempf, General Secretary of the International Spiritist Council. The Regular Meeting of the CFN of FEB, at that time together with the Superior Council of FEB, produced information that will mark the beginning of a new step for FEB and the Spiritist Movement. Such as work plans and adaptations of Areas and Guidelines for young Brazilian Spiritists, inaugurations and covenants, editorial agreement between Federations and FEB and the unprecedented Strategic Planning of FEB.

The inauguration of new Departments was significant, as was the beginning of the celebrations of the 130th Anniversary of FEB. Visit of International Speakers to Columbia.

This year the Colombian Spiritist Movement received the presence of international speakers. Where each brought humble experiences that had had while practising these beautiful Teachings and

which they transmitted through their examples. Among the speakers were César Soares dos Reis, Julio Carvalho and César Perri.

Campaign in Defence of Life

The excellent management during the year that has been performed by Mr. Fermin Acosta for the Campaign in Defence of Life in Barraca Bermeja, resulting in its dissemination on a national level, by calling upon academic, civil and military authorities is thus making Spiritism known through the education of people. These are special moments of spiritual renewal, when the knowledge that Spiritism can reach a signific The President of FEB, César Antonio Perri, visited Bogotá between 15th and 18th November, at the invitation of the Colombian Spiritist Confederation (CONFECOL), which has as its President Jorge Berrio. Antonio César Perri gave a seminar on "Union and Unity in times of Transition", having as a target audience Directors of Centres from various regions of Colombia. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the “Third Revelation Spiritist Association”. Attending the meeting was the National Federative Council of CONFECOL, which consists of representatives from the Regional Federations, where activities of FEB and the ISC were reported and interviewed by the Colombian Spiritist Radio. The Spiritist Federation of Cundinamarca, continues planning and organising for the second meeting of the Movement “Tu y La Paz” in Bogota to be held on 24th June 2014. The special guest Divaldo Franco, the speaker for that topic on an international level, has confirmed his participation.

The Colombian Spiritist Movement took part in a

Referendum for the Right to Life:

Colombian Spiritism plays a very important role in the growth of the number of people who wish to participate in the drafting of the Law. Through which it calls for a Referendum, for the people to be able to submit for consideration a proposed constitutional amendment that will allow the protection of all human life against provoked abortion. The result will be known by March 2014.

before the National Spiritualist Congress in Spain. The 20th National Spiritist Congress of Spain took place in Calpe (Alicante). from 6th to 8th December 2013.

THE FRENCH SPIRITIST COUNCIL

T The General Assembly of the French Spiritist Council took place on 21stSeptember 2013. The Board of Directors was composed of Michel Buffet, Richard Buono, Sophie Giusti, Pierre-Etienne Jay, Charles Kempf, Aurélie Metz, Jérémie Philippe, Gérard and Mauricette Ruchot Tremerel. The President is Richard Buono and the Vice President Pierre-Etienne Jay.

On the same date there was a seminar on ESDE, animated by Carlos Campetti. This was very fruitful and allowed for a better detection of the needs, which will now be met by local helpers. France is projecting the 1st Festival of spiritual and humanitarian films in Lyon for November 2014 (Birthplace of Allan Kardec and the Lumière brothers, inventors of the cinema). The purpose would be to inform the general public about Spiritist films at an International Festival, the benefits of which will go to a charity. The selection of films is being made and will depend on obtaining the necessary authorisations.

On 12th October the 4th Congress on Medicine and Spirituality was held in Rijswijk. With the support of AME International and the Dutch

While the joy of Christmas lights the flame of prayer, we are renewed inside of

ourselves for a better world. Some say that faith was lost in the workings of

civilisation and that science on Earth has extinguished the spiritual light. In truth, Master, it is

man who now controls the atomic energies and is preparing the conquest of cosmic forces, as if

he were the commander of life. Nevertheless, before our very eyes, we only have selfishness and

vanity that compromises greatness, like a magnificent palace based upon a floor of explosives...

Everywhere, skirting the chariots of the powerful, losers of every kind are being dragged along.

Many have gone mad from excess of comfort and roam the caverns of narcotics; others terrified

by the vision of perfect crimes, born of intellectual pomp, lie mentally mutilated in the trenches of

a hospice... Millions lift up their arms in antennas of pain in the vast sea of human trials as if ship-

wrecked, in grimaces of death, together with crowds of agitated and unhappy people, tired of un-

The Spirits' Book is in the process of being translated into Norwegian. The Group’s translators are comprised of Ann Kristin Espejord, Lars Omdal and Cristina Latini, who have used translations in Swedish, English and French as a basis for their work. GEEAK maintained their Study Meetings throughout 2012 and have proceeded without any changes during 2013.

"The Gospel in the Construction of a Good Person" was the theme of the 2nd South American Spiritist Congress held from 13th to 15th September in Asuncion (Paraguay), in the Hotel Excelsior. Divaldo Pereira Franco gave the opening and closing talks and developed the seminar "Personal Triumph". Divaldo Franco gave several talks in Portugal from 17th to 28th October 2013. José Araújo - Brazilian Spiritist and medium - was also in Portugal between 2nd & 17th November, supported by the Portuguese Spiritist Federation, he finalised his journey at the Portuguese Spiritist Congress in Leiria.

CONGRESS ON MEDICINE & SPIRITUALITY - 2013

The Congress was held at the School of Dental Medicine in Lisbon on 26th & 27th October. The speakers addressed health and illness in the light of the new paradigm, which permits understanding and facing the vicissitudes and pains of life with resignation. With the enlightenment of Spiritist Medicine we can better understand cancer, heart disease and fibromyalgia, as well as diseases of the soul and the vices that are so common these days.

ENEIJ 2013 At the Meeting of Workers for the Moral Teachings for Children and Teenagers there were 125 participants from across the country.

It took place on the first Sunday in November, at the headquarters of FEP. The day was rich in information and full of enthusiasm. Supporting educational materials were distributed to each Group present. It is increasingly important to constantly inform children and teenagers as to the value of GOODNESS.

CEP 2013 The Portuguese Spiritist Congress was held in Leiria, on 16th & 17th November. It was attended by about 350 people, who at the end expressed overall satisfaction that included the contents of communications and the cultural moments. Also present was the highly esteemed Divaldo Franco, who gave the opening and closing speeches.

In the last quarter of 2013 BUSS organised the following events: 14th-15th September - Carlos Campetti - Seminars for the Preparation of Monitors for ESDE, with the participation of workers from various Spiritist Groups in the UK and Ireland. 4th British Medical-Spiritual Congress. – 10th & 11th November.and 11th 218 Participants, 11 Speakers - 3 from UK, 1 from Canada, 1 from the United States and 6 from Brazil. A BUSS event in conjunction with AME-International. This year there was a feeling of spiritual progress on the part of all the participants who were mostly linked to the area of Health. Participants came

from Sweden, Ireland, Japan, Spain and Portugal,Italy, Scotland, Brazil and the USA.

A Seminar with Jorge Godinho

Held on 30th November. it was a great opportunity to hear talks and a seminar from the speaker Jorge Godinho, a FEB Councillor. During 2013 Godinho also gave very special attention to the Netherlands, Switzerland and Luxembourg, as well as the UK.

The Christmas Campaign Under the leadership of Antonio Leal, (BUSS Depart. Social Assistance) it was possible to prepare 1,070 shoeboxes filled with gifts and school supplies for children in various parts of the world. There were various workshops at the BUSS headquarters and

On 17th September 2013, Jussara Korngold presented the topic Reflections on Being a Spiritist in Gotemburgo, organised by the Göteborgs Spiritistiska Förening Allan Kardec - GSFAK. Jussara also spoke in Hässleholm during a Fraternal Meeting held in September by UES – the Swedish Spiritualist Union - whose president is Eliane Dähre. On 17th October 2013, Marcel Mariano held a Mini-Seminar with the theme The Immortality of the Soul and Reincarnation. The lecture was given together with a direct translation into Swedish and had an audience of 23 people.

SWITZERLAND UNION OF SPIRITIST STUDY CENTRES IN SWITZERLAND - UCESS

During the last quarter of 2013 within the Swiss Spiritist Movement, there was observed a growing "Eagerness” for a more thorough knowledge of the Spiritist Teachings. Therefore, other studies began beyond those anticipated during the planning, coordinated by Jorge Godinho. So on Saturday, 30th November the focus was on the book “Missionaries of Light”. Thus, Spiritist Centres in Switzerland are been strengthened. UCESS, along with Dr. Marlene Nobre, organised a seminar and conferences in the towns of Lugano and Locarno. This was a welcome opportunity to hear the doctors Marlene Nobre, Irvênia Prada and Decius Landoli Jr. who have currently several books translated into Italian, thanks to the ceaseless efforts of the valiant companion Dorival Sortino. There was the release of the new books of the panellists: Il passe como cura magnética, Il dono della Midianite, La question spirituale degli animali and medical Essere ed essere uman. In Bern, the Medical-Spiritual Seminar was held in an amphitheatre for 200 people. It was a historical landmark. Inaugural Lecture - The Epiphysis and the Quantum Mind. A spiritual vision of timeless issues, delivered by Jorge Cecilio Daher. This conference aroused curiosity in the books by André Luiz. Assessing the opinions, a Swiss doctor (Who lives 300 km from Bern) left happy, saying he had found confirmation of what he already knew intuitively. We also had the pleasant satisfaction of celebrating the anniversary of the founding of two new Spiritist Groups, the launching of UCESS’s New Visual Identity and its 1st Electronic

Newsletter. CEEAK - Centre for Allan Kardec Spiritist Studies celebrated its 15th Anniversary of foundation in the castle of Yverdon-les-Bains on 5th October, At a fraternal luncheon CEEAK gathered together Spiritists from various parts of Switzerland and Europe for a lecture by Jorge Godinho and Professor César Reis who expounded on Jesus and Kardec. On 24th November, the CESG – Centre for Spiritist Studies in Geneva, held a fraternal lunch and lecture by Professor Therese Rey, the Founder of the Swiss Spiritist Movement, with the theme: “40 Years of Foundation”. In remembering her commitment and perseverance, the she provided examples of Faith and Trust. In closing the year, it was not just the training sector of UCESS that had been active; but also the sector for dissemination that had manifest itself and shown the results of their efforts. On the Internet page everyone is invited to appreciate the new Visual Identity and the 1st Electronic Newsletter and to make a note in their agenda for 22nd and 23rd March 2014, when the Fifth Gathering of UCESS will be held. FEB and ISC in Vene-zuela After commitments ful-filled in Colombia, Anto-nio Cesar Perri de Car-valho - President of the Brazilian Spiritist Feder-ation and 1st Secretary of the International Spir-itist Council - visited Venezuela from 19th to 23rd November, being the first President of FEB ever to visit this neigh-bouring country. In Caracas, he talked with managers and employ-ees of the Mensaje Fraternal magazine and signed, together with the President of that institution and its Editor, Alipio González Hernández, a partnership agreement with FEB for the dissemination of books translated into Spanish. Antonio Perri also lectured on "Escuela de Ciencia y Universal Philosophy", in Maracay, and gave a public lecture at the

In September we joyfully held the first meeting between the Spiritist Study Groups focusing on "Charity and Spiritual Work". The event was attended by about 35 people and emphasised the importance of giving ourselves to others, the commitment to moral improvement and also the importance of continuos study for spiritual work. Also in September, responsiveness with a touch of love marked the events with our friend Jussara Korngold, who talked about Obsession and

The Perispirit, themes in two events held in the cities of Helsinki and Vääksy. The talks were subsequently translated into Finnish.

In October, we held the 1st Medical Spiritist Symposium in Helsinki with the participation of AME International, through the speakers George Daher

and Giancarlo Lucchetti The event was held in the Medical Institute of the Helsinki University, the audience was predominantly Finnish, who were very interested in the subjects covered. The first lecture featured the theme: Scientific evidence for survival of Consciousness after Death and then continued on the second day with Spirituality within Medical Education. We still had Jorge for another event in Vääksy, where he addressed the issue of How to Explain Inexplicable Cures - the Spiritist point of view.

To end our bulletin for 2013, in September the book And Life Goes On was published in Finnish by representatives of the Association Friends of Dom Inacio and is now available for sale. To all the friends who brought the word of love from distant lands, we wish to thank them by asking the Master Jesus to give everyone a spiritual

flower to strengthen them for the task of dissemination.

SPIRITISM IN BELARUS

When it was founded, the first weekly lectures of the Minsk Spiritist Group had taken place in the botanical gardens. Since September 2013, the Group had rented a room in the centre of Criativo that houses several associations. Now, a course and talks on the Reality of the Spiritual World and the Basis of Spiritualism is being introduced into the Group. The course being given is based on a systematic study of the Spiritist Teachings. The main programme, published by FEB, studies the Allan Kardec books "What is Spiritism?" - "The Spirits’ Book” - “The Gospel According to Spiritism" and other works. An opening theme with a presentation of slides is being prepared for each talk. There are twice weekly meetings for study and the practice of mediumship being held for a small group (3 persons). The didactic materials being used are “The Study and Practice of Mediumship”, provided by the Allan Kardec Spiritist Centre of Campinas, and prepared by Therezinha de Oliveira, together with materials from other reliable sources.

Roberto Lúcio de Souza and Décio Landoli Jr gave lectures on mental illness and spiritual influence. Sixteen people participated, mostly from the Czech Republic, who were very interested in the experiences of the speakers within a health service that included care for the soul. Roberto Lúcio works in the André Luiz hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

received increasing number of visits. Some people even write to ask about the books and expressed interest in Spiritism. More articles on Spiritist topics will be published In the future. The Facebook page is in operation and serves to propagate lectures and publish articles.

There will be several lectures in the Czech Republic in the following months. The Vienna Group will organise a lecture with Carlos Campetti in December on "How to Find Happiness" in Brno. There may be a talk in Prague in March 2014 with Andrei Moreira who may go to Prague to lecture on spirituality and health.
