OBJECTIVES AND PRINCIPLES OF ISBD The ISBD provides consistent stipulations for
description of all types of published resources, to theextent that uniformity is possible, and specific
stipulations for specific types of resources as required
to describe those resources The ISBD provides the stipulations for compatibledescriptive cataloguing worldwide in order to aid the
international exchange of bibliographic records
between national bibliographic agencies andthroughout the international library and informationcommunity (including producers and publishers).

The ISBD accommodates different levelsof description, including those needed bynational bibliographic agencies, national
bibliographies, universities and otherresearch collections.

one country can be easily accepted in librarycatalogues or other bibliographic lists in anyother country

A standard number is any number oralphanumeric designation associated with and
identifying a resource according to aninternational standard, such as an International
Standard Book Number or an InternationalStandard Serial Number
The area contains information about the termsof availability of the information packages for
example it is free to members but others mustpay or it is unavailable to the public for a certainnumber of years.
