Outreach was done in person, on construction sites across the state and at meetings at our local union hall. This document serves as a compilation of the written comments that Towards Justice collected from workers. Attached to this email you will find a cover letter summarizing International Union of Painters and Allied Trades 8-16-19 A common theme in our collected comments was the concern for health and safety when workers are not allowed to take breaks. Below are excerpts from comments made by our members. Comments were made in English and Spanish. From Jared S. Laird,: “I believe all workers are entitled to a break especially those in the manual labor industry. Breaks are vital to keeping workers hydrated and nourished to perform at their best without risk of dehydration and heat exhaustion if workers are to work overtime they should be compensated as such because that’s time out of their day and life with their family to provide for the company.” From Richard Pineda, : “Fatigue wears on everyone. A break is a means to recover and avoid injuries or mishaps. Going without is sure fire way to ha something go wrong.” From Chris Medina Individuals that are on salary should get paid what they are worth. Sometimes more hours are require\d of them, but they make it up in other ways. The do not deserve to get taken advantage of, but should work to get what they need done.” From Byron Benegas,: “I would like that there be a law that protected the workers salaries and further more that the overtime be paid when we work more than 40 hours a week”
