Level 10 (former Level 5) with a grade of ‘A’

Western is an English language university and it is important for your success that you are proficient in both spoken and written English. Western may require any applicant to write a test of English proficiency. You are encouraged to write a test at the earliest possible date and before March 2018 at the latest. Scores for any test written before January 2016 may not be accepted.

WESTERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTRE (WELC) – ENGLISH BOOST PROGRAMThe English Boost program is designed for students who have been offered conditional admission to Western based on their academic background and who are just below Western’s English language proficiency requirements. This is a nine-week program beginning in early July, prior to the start of undergraduate degree programs in September, to give students the ‘boost’ they need to succeed in their degree.

The Undergraduate Admissions Office automatically considers applicants to Western’s Main Campus for the English Boost program if they are deemed academically admissible and based on space availability in the program when an applicant’s file is ready to be assessed. No additional application is required.

Boost is more than just a language program. Student success is cultivated by developing communication skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – in combination with the cultural knowledge required to succeed in Western’s demanding academic environment. We will help you to become familiar with Western’s campus, facilities, processes and university life, and will regularly provide experiences beyond the classroom at locations off campus and throughout Ontario.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

Other test options and additional details on English proficiency, including minimum score requirements for MELAB, CAEL, and PTE exams, are available at: www.welcome.uwo.ca/admissions/admission_requirements

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMSSuccessful completion of one of the programs noted below is also considered as acceptable proof of English proficiency. Contact the programs directly to explore the details and learn about the application process.
