• To collect, quality check and archive climate data• To ensure a reliable database in MAKLIM and IMS• To provide professional and efficient climatological and

hydrological service• To distribute climatological publication to local and international

clients• To monitor climate variability in the country especially El Nino

Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and La Nina to improve nationalclimate outlook

• To coordinate a generate Fire Danger Rating System (FDRS)product for national and regional usage

• To participate under International Hydrological Programme (IHP)

Function

• The Administration and Services Unit also provides the followingservices;

To provide professional services in planning, evaluation andimplementation of projects that are sensitive to climate;

To supply climatological data and information to users such asgovernment agencies, private sectors and institutes of Higher Learning;and

Publish Meteorological Observation Summaries and Weather Bulletin forlocal and international distribution.

• MAKLIM Database was developed to replace the CLICOM systemin 2002.

• The MAKLIM system has been in operation officially began fromJuly 2002 and the Oracle (version 8i) was used as a database.

• In 2006, operating system has been upgraded to Oracle 10gversion

• The historical data stored inside the database from the year of1951 dependence on the start date station operated

• MAKLIM system consists of two instances of MAKLIM andQMAKLIM. MAKLIM is for the production database (productiondatabase) and QMAKLIM is a database for checking quality.MAKLIM receive data either directly (automatically from the mainstations and AWS) or indirectly (data entered by data entry staff).

• In year 2010, the new integrated database systemwas developed to fulfill the needs of the client thatis Integrated Meteorological System (IMS)• The main reason of the utilization is storage of allmeteorological data in one unified structure• The unified structure is based on the SQLDatabase server and the standard data access isbased on the SQL language.
