1. Executive summary:

Logistics is one of the most important functions in business today. No

marketing, manufacturing or project execution can succeed without logistics

support. Logistics is important in Pakistan because of the country's size,

geography, population variety, natural and man-made calamities etc.

Pakistan lacks a well-developed road network and waterways are still

unexploited.

ITC was formed in 2006 with the vision to revolutionize the logistics industry

in Pakistan by introducing modern and innovative, multi-modal, logistics

solutions for clients across all industries. The Pakistani transportation &

logistics sector has long been plagued with fragmentation & inefficiencies.

From obsolete and inefficient trucking fleets consisting of mostly rigid two-

axle trucks, to informal truck operators and non-professional human

resources, the industry has consistently underperformed and remained a

bottle-neck for the rest of the economy.

ITC has the most modern trucking fleet in the industry. Incorporating a brand

new fleet of prime-movers and rigid trucks, we ensure fast, efficient and

reliable delivery solutions for container freight, bulk cargo, dry and liquid

cargo & over-sized loads.

The work that I did during my 6 weeks internship primarily includes voucher checking, Handling

tasks related to operational management and managed vehicles to make sure on time delivery.

Make the budgets of trips, Managed the database of invoices

The main problem that I identified during my internship period was the lack of awareness about

exact job descriptions of employees, the inability of employees to approach higher officials

easily, undefined job tasks in operations.

Some of the suggestions in this respect were the

introduction of compulsory weekly meeting of all staff

to discuss the discrepancies in every regard, introducing

job specific training to employees and adhering to the

criteria laid out by the HR department for job

advancements in complete faith and employee training sessions on regional level.

These travel expenses were calculated and checked by me I was to make a detailed report of the

expenses and was to forward it to the head office.

b. Establish file for the organization:

ITC Logistics has lot of filling system. My main work is to establish the office file which is an

up heel task for me. Because organization have lot of files which they want to re-organize them.

As an MBA (FINANCE) I have enjoy to work with the accounts department. My fallow partner

who is also internee come from NUML University has a MBA (FINANACE) doing internal

Page 18: Internship Report on ITC logistics

18 | P a g e

Page 19: Internship Report on ITC logistics

12. Identification of a main problem:

The main problems that I identified during my internship period were:

The lack of awareness about exact job descriptions among employees.

The inability of employees to approach higher officials easily (lower level of

centralization).

Undefined job tasks in Operations department

Only one office in all over Pakistan, no branches.

Lack of amenity and common room

Incentives like study scholarships, performance awards etc

13. Conclusions and Recommendations:

Some of the suggestions in this respect were

The introduction of compulsory weekly meeting of all staff at branch level to discuss the

discrepancies in every regard

Introducing job specific training to employees

Employee training sessions on regional level led by Regional Heads to take insight of

their employees

There should be a prayer room developed in all branches as many employees want to

pray, but do not have the proper place to do it.

There should be a common room, so as to give employees a relaxing environment when

they have a break

Incentive schemes should be developed for the employees that can help motivate them,

which might include:

o Scholarship programs for all employees for further study.

o Introducing employee awards at branch and regional levels.

o Job rotation programs to enhance the skills of employees.

A proper IT department should be established in all branches, with professional having

the knowledge to maintain a secured connection with all truck drivers also scheduled

backups of data should be done within the branch office.

14. Conclusion

Logistics is the one important function in business today. No marketing,

manufacturing or project execution can succeed without logistics support.

Logistics is important in Pakistan because of the country's size, geography,

population variety, natural and man-made calamities etc. The transport

facilities are inadequate in Pakistan and roads are bad. Pakistan lacks a well-

developed road network and waterways are still unexploited.

Due to competition, globalization and information availability, logistics has

gained extra importance. First: the days are gone when a manufacturer had

a better raw material supplier than competitors. Then, the operations in a

manufacturing process are well known to all. The processes are more or less

standard. Also, technology is available to all. The only area where one can

score over competitors is logistics. If logistics cost is reduced, there is a gain.

Logistics is a critical factor for effective marketing too: for, if a company

cannot reach the right thing at the right place etc., then, regardless of the

marketing efforts, the business comes down.

Logistics is one of the areas of the supply chain i.e. growing at a tremendous

case as the Internet and E-Commerce is drastically changing the range,

delivery time and the speed of information as well as ordering and payment

process. Due to the big boon of information technology, greatly influencing

and enhancing the effectiveness of logistics, the time is not far when

logistics services would prove to be one of the major contributors to the

National Income.
