I am glad to share this news with you, and I am especially happy that we get to celebrate this together. A great part of my own celebrating is gratitude. I am grateful that four years ago my family and I connected with the good people of First Baptist Church of Augusta. It wasn’t too long after joining that I even got blessed to get to know some of our most important members because I was invited to help out with Vacation Bible School (you should sign up). I am grateful to have served as part of the church staff for a little more than two years. What an excellent group of colleagues to have in ministry! I’m thankful for their friendship, encouragement and guidance. My primary role was to help care for you. I am humbled to have been welcome to do some holy work with you: praying with you in the hospital, visiting in your homes and even thanking God for beautiful lives remembered at funerals. As is often the case, the minister can even feel like one being ministered to. I would have to agree that was my experience with you. I am thankful for how we took care of each other. I count it a tremendous privilege to have helped lead our benevolence ministry. I marveled at the number of volunteers who keep this good work going. They show up Tuesday after Tuesday with an earnest desire to help others. Their success can be attributed to the fact that they love Jesus and want to put that into action. I will miss working alongside our volunteers as well as greeting, caring for, listening to, and being ministered to by our neighbors who come for assistance. I got to see ministry really does go both ways. All we have to do is be willing to give and receive. Keep those green envelope offerings coming, and fill those food drive carts! Thank you for the invitations to teach and preach. Whether it was in the pulpit, the chapel or the classroom, I enjoyed getting to share with you—and to learn from you. Now, I get to take these experiences with me to a new congregation, a sister church in God’s big, diverse family. I believe I go very well prepared to do ministry with them. You have been a big part of helping get me ready to go. When I preached just after Thanksgiving last year, it was an emotional experience that filled my heart. I was able to look around and see people. While I preached, a body of believers preached back to me because I saw you. I saw faces, and I knew your names, about your families and experiences, and I was overwhelmed that I got to be a part of them. I looked around, and I saw my friends. Thank you. Yours kindly, Chip Reeves
