As you may recall, the disciples are concerned that this was not a good use of Jesus’ time, so they begin to tell the kids to go away and leave Jesus to more serious business. What I love about Jesus is that he responds by telling his disciples to let the kids stay and have time with him. He prays with each child and gives them a blessing. This short story conveys to us the importance of children to the One we confess as Lord and Savior. If children are that important to Jesus, it should go without saying that they mean the world to us. We want to give them every opportunity to learn about the love, grace, and wonder of Jesus Christ. Our church is constantly striving to find better and more creative ways to communicate the gospel with our kids. So it should come as no surprise that on Sunday, Melissa hosted an evening where twenty-one elementary school kids signed up to hear about what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Throughout the evening they were given the opportunity to ask questions about God, their faith, and anything else that came to mind. I want to share a few of their questions with you. “How can I be a better Christian?” “Where did God get the idea of creating the earth and us?” “Why do we have to get dunked in the water?” “How do you know the stories in the Bible are true?” “How do I hear God?” These are great questions for children. They are also great questions for adults. May God give us faith like children. May God give us faith that sees the world with wonder and beauty. May God give us grace to ask questions such as these. Grace and Peace, Will

First Thoughts

Dear Church,

In Matthew’s gospel there is a story about children coming to Jesus so that he could pray with them and give each child a few moments of his attention.

“How can I be a better Christian?”

“Where did God get the idea of creating the earth and us?”

“Why do we have to get dunked in the water?”

“How do you know the stories in the Bible are true?”

“How do I hear God?”

These are great questions for children. They are also great questions for adults. May God give us faith like children. May God give us faith that sees the world with wonder and beauty. May God give us grace to ask questions such as these.

Grace and Peace, Will
