Mother In Law Mueller is traveling with his wife and mother-in-law in a far east country. At a place of honor his mother-in-law makes a careless remark, which the native people take as an insult to the royal family.Mueller is dragged off to court with his wife and mother- in-law and are sentenced to corpora l punishment. Each of them are to receive 50 lashes on the rear end with a cane. But

because the royal family doesn’t want to appear hostile to foreigners, they grant the guests in their country a wish beforehand, as long as it is able to be fulfilled.Mrs. Mueller is first."What do you wish for yourself?""I would like a pillow bound on my rear end before the lashings.""Okay, that shall be granted to you."Mrs. Mueller has the pillow

bound to her rear end and receives her punishment. But because the pillow is too small and the executioner also hits her back a couple of times, she receives a few blows.Next it is Mueller’s mother-in-law’s turn."What do you wish for yourself?""I would like a pillow bound on my rear end and a pillow bound on my back before the lashings.""Okay, that shall be granted to you."The mother-in-law receives her fifty lashes, but hardly feels the pain through the pillows.T h e n c o m e s M u e l l e r himself."What do you wish for yourself?""I have two wishes. Do you want to fulfill them for me?""Because you are a guest in our country, we want to fulfill your wishes for you, a s l o n g a s t h e y a r e reasonable.""I would like 100 lashes instead of 50."T h e e x e c u t i o n e r i s surprised, but recovers again right away and replies, "Yes, that is a pious wish, it shall be granted to you. And what is your second wish?""I would like to have my mother-in-law bound to my back."

You and your boss When you take a long time, you’re slow. When your boss takes a long time, he’s thorough. When you don’t do it, you’re lazy. When your boss doesn’t do it, he’s too busy. When you make a mistake, you’re an idiot. When your boss makes a

mistake, he’s only human. When doing something without being told, you’re overstepping your authority. When your boss does the same thing, that’s initiative. When you take a stand, you’re being bull-headed.When your boss does it, he’s being firm. When you overlooked a rule of etiquette, you’re being

rude.When your boss skips a few rules, he’s being original.When you please your boss, you’re apple polishing.When your boss pleases his b o s s , h e ’ s b e i n g c o -operative.When you’re out of the office, you’re wandering around.When your boss is out of the

office, he’s on business. When you’re on a day off sick, you’re always sick. When your boss is a day off sick, he must be very ill. When you apply for leave, you must be going for an interview. When your boss applies for leave, it’s because he’s overworked.

BREAKFAST-LUNCH-DINNER

Many people go to jail and then have to spend months to find our cars, usually they are found at the auctions or hidden in a back lot until the 90 days is up. It is a scam in my opinion to make more money off those who have gotten in trouble.

So now we are repeating name-calling insults like, creepy or deadbeat. What happened to us? Do we have to mimic the worst in our society, or do we show that we have values? Be kind and do unto others. Now it’s, blame, deny, whine, accuse

and repeat.

I am very glad the lady lost on the Hawaiian trail is finally safe and sound — but am I the only one who thinks this is much to do about nothing? The utter stupidity of an intelligent, mature woman hiking alone in unfamiliar territory with no cell phone or other emergency equipment is beyond me. Personally, I think she should be held accountable for putt ing emergency responders at risk!

C o n g r e s s i s c u r r e n t l y expending a lot of effort trying to drag up something to charge President Trump with instead of trying to, oh I don’t know, do their jobs and work t owa rd s t ab i l i z i ng ou r economy and t ry ing to actually solve problems instead of just creating more and more. Seriously, if the people in Congress were employees working at a real job instead of politicians getting paid to sit around and expel hot air, they would’ve been fired years ago.

I really like going to our Downtown you never know what you will find, see or hear. This morning we are entertained by a guitar in hand singing cowboy. We just love our city.

Find your passion in life and then find a college curriculum and/or job that satisfies the pass ion . ” Many young people follow their passion and get a college degree for which there are few jobs and/or the salary does not support a decent living. They

are further burdened by c r i pp l i ng s tuden t l oan payments. I say do your h o m e w o r k b e f o r e y o u choose a major and include questions such as salary and availability of positions.

I w i l l no t be wa tch ing “Jeopardy” until that person is beat and they go back to the five-day week. It is a wonderful game but boring now. A few of neighbors not watching either.

In my opinion, for the last few elections, Democrats have run in the middle but once elected they move to the left in their policies. At present, it appears they are running on the left. If this means that once elected they will move further left in policies, that will b e d i s a s t r o u s f o r o u r country 's economy and character.

I am really curious. Why do you think the media is not p u t t i n g t h e p h o t o o f DeWayne Craddock all over the place? There are plenty of victim photos, but you really have to search to view Craddock. I am not saying

the photos are not available, but I am saying that CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and other liberal messengers do not want you to see him. Now why is that?

I guess it’s true what Einstein (supposedly) said. “Only two th ings are infin i te , the u n i v e r s e a n d h u m a n stupidity. And I’m not so sure about the first one.” The politicians in D.C. seem determined to prove the second one.

I am a Christian. I want a wall. I am not turning my back on people who are "fleeing persecution, violence and poverty." I, like Christ, just want them to flee their situations and enter the U.S. legally. It puzzles me why this is so hard for people to understand.

For the life of me, I do not understand the sheer

madness of climbing Mount Everest! Recent coverage of the poor soul who recently perished during the climb a l so showed a l i ne o f lemmings going to the top one behind each other on a

very narrow, dangerous path under frightful and arduous conditions. Sheer lunacy!

Bad Contractors 101 coming soon. Buckle your seatbelts.

Could be weeks before Oklahoma’s Port of Catoosa is reopened after floodsFor three weeks, Oklahoma’s Port of Catoosa has been closed due to the flooding of the Arkansas River. And now officials say there could be an obvious impact on not just Oklahoma’s economy but those in at least 20 other

states.“We are shut down on the waterway. Now the Port of Catoosa is in business we are still getting trucks,” said David Yarbrough, Director of the Port. “Navigation takes a backseat to flood control.”

He was interviewed by KOTV news in Tulsa and explained the port usually moves two and a half million tons of products and goods a year. But the flooding resulted in a shutdown and Yarbrough says the impact is being felt on surrounding states that ship or receive goods from the port. The waterways along the Port o f Ca toosa a re usua l ly b r imming wi th energy, packed with boats, goods coming in and out of town but o n Tu e s d a y t h i n g s a r e unusually quiet.“If goods can’t move on the water. Whether it is wheat or soybeans or steel coming to Tulsa, they have to ship it by t ruck o r by r a i l , ” s a id Yarbrough.

And that temporary change could impact the state’s economy in a big way.“This is the cheapest way to ship the things that we ship. So, now these folks have to find other ways to move their goods,” said Yarbrough, “You won’t see it right away but overtime the ripple effects of t h a t t r a n s p o r t a t i o n interruption. It jams up the highways and it costs more to ship those goods.”Based on the Corps o f E n g i n e e r s p r o j e c t i o n s , Yarbrough says it could be weeks before the waterway reopens.“ T h i s s e t b a c k o n t h e transportation side is just that, a setback, it is something that we can overcome,” said Yarbrough.

USDA Proposes New SECURE Biotechnology Regulations to Protect Plant Health and

Promote Agricultural InnovationThe U.S. Department of A g r i c u l t u r e ( U S DA ) today announced the availability of a proposed rule titled “Movement of C e r t a i n G e n e t i c a l l y Engineered Organisms.” I n p r e p a r i n g t h i s proposal, we were guided b y t h e f o l l o w i n g principles: Sustainable, Ecological, Consistent, Uniform, Responsible,

Efficient, or SECURE for short. The SECURE rule w i l l m o d e r n i z e t h e Department’sb i o t e c h n o l o g y r e g u l a t i o n s w i t h a balanced approach that continues to protect plant health while allowing agricultural innovation to thrive. “As the name SECURE implies, this proposed

rule incorporates the need for efficient and sustainable agricultural production to help feed and clothe the world c o m b i n e d w i t h r e s p o n s i b l e a n d predictable regulatory oversight to safeguard America’s ecology and plant health,” said USDA Under Secre tary for M a r k e t i n g a n d Regulatory Programs Greg Ibach. SECURE would mark the first significant revision of USDA’s biotechnology regulations since they were established in 1987. For several years, USDA has worked to engage s t a k e h o l d e r s a b o u t potential changes to these regulations, with the goal o f f o s t e r i n g p u b l i c c o n f i d e n c e w h i l e providing industry with a n e f f i c i e n t a n d t r a n s p a r e n t r e v i e w process that doesn’ t restrict innovation. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) oversees the importation, interstate m o v e m e n t a n d environmental release of genetically engineered organisms to ensure they do not pose a plant pest risk. SECURE is designed t o h a v e s u f f i c i e n t regulatory flexibility for advances in genet ic engineering and our understanding of the plant pest risk posed by them. SECURE also incorporates cer ta in provisions of the 2008 Farm Bill and

recommendations from the 2015 USDA Office of Inspector General report on GE organisms. “SECURE would enable APHIS to evaluate GE organisms for plant pest r i s k w i t h g r e a t e r precision than the current rule allows, ensuring oversight and risk are b a s e d o n t h e b e s t available science,” said Ibach. “This common sense approach wil l ultimately give farmers more choices in the field and consumers more choices at the grocery store.” USDA’s proposed rule will be available for p u b l i c r e v i e w a n d c o m m e n t s w i l l b e accepted for 60 days

beginning June 6, 2019, through August 5, 2019. After the public comment period closes, we will decide next steps based on our evaluation of p u b l i c c o m m e n t s . Additionally, USDA

plans to publish a draft p r o g r a m m a t i c Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) soon, and w e l o o k f o r w a r d t o stakeholder input on that document.

USDA Proposes to Consolidate Regulations for Laboratory TestingT h e U n i t e d S t a t e s D e p a r t m e n t o f Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is taking steps to make it easier for

a n i m a l d i a g n o s t i c laboratories to carry out vital livestock disease testing on behalf of the a g e n c y . U S D A i s proposing to update its

regulations that outline how the agency approves laboratories to conduct official testing for animal diseases, as well as how t h e y c a n r e m a i n approved. Currently, the specifics for approval processes are listed in disease-specific sections throughout the animal health regulations and they vary by disease. This proposal would create a s ingle , user- f r iendly process for laboratory approval and consolidate the existing regulations into one location.

Approved laboratories play a vital role in our animal health efforts, by providing us with proven, accurate results in a specific timeframe. We rely on these laboratories every day to provide clear information about the health status of the

nation’s many herds and flocks. The proposed changes will make it easier for laboratories to understand what they need to do to become approved and remain approved to conduct a wide variety of official tests for USDA. Existing

approved laboratories would begin using the new process when it is t i m e f o r t h e i r n e x t renewal. USDA would i m p l e m e n t t h e n e w p r o c e s s f o r n e w l y -reques ted approva l s immediately.

Ensure food and beverages are safe to consume after a floodOklahomans know all too well the effects floodwaters can have on both individuals and communities. Floods can cause loss of human life, d a m a g e t o p r o p e r t y , destruction of crops, loss of livestock and more. The safety of food and beverage products following a flood also is a concern, said Ravi Jadeja, food safety specialist for Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center. It’s important to know the proper food safety

precautions to take after a national disaster, such as a f lood. Emergencies can happen, especially with extreme weather conditions, and being prepared to safely handle food and beverages after a flood is key.The following tips can help assure food and beverages are safe to eat if affected by a flood.1.Do not eat any food that may have come into contact with flood water.2.Discard any food and beverage that are not in a waterproof container if it has

come into contact with flood water. Food containers that are waterproof include undamaged, commercially prepared foods in all-metal cans and retort pouches, such as flexible, shelf-stable juice or seafood pouches. Food containers that are not waterproof include those with screw caps, snap lids, pull tops, and crimped caps. Also, discard cardboard juice/milk/baby formula boxes and home-canned foods if they have come in contact with flood water because they cannot be effectively cleaned and sanitized.3 . D i s c a r d a n y f o o d i n damaged cans. Damaged cans are those with swelling, leakage, punctures, holes, fractures, extensive deep rusting, or crushing/denting that is severe enough to prevent normal stacking or opening with a manual, wheel-type can opener.4.Thoroughly wash metal pans, ceramic dishes and utensils , including can openers, with soap and water, using hot water if available. Rinse and then sanitize them by boiling in clean water or immersing them for 15 minutes in a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented household (5.25 percent concentration) liquid bleach per gallon of water.5 . T h o r o u g h l y w a s h countertops with soap and water, using hot water if available. Rinse and then sani t i ze by apply ing a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented household (5.25 percent concentration) liquid bleach per gallon of water. Allow to air dry.In addition, undamaged, commercially prepared foods in all-metal cans and retort

pouches can be saved by following these procedures.1.Remove the labels, if they are the removable kind, since they can harbor dirt and bacteria.2.Brush or wipe away any dirt or silt.3.Thoroughly wash the cans or retort pouches with soap and water, using hot water if it is available.4.Rinse the cans or retort pouches with water that is safe for drinking, if available, since dirt or residual soap will reduce the effectiveness of chlorine sanitation.5.Sanitize cans and retort pouches by immersion. Either place in water and allow the water to come to a boil and continue boiling for 2 minutes, or place in a s o l u t i o n o f 1 c u p o f unscented household (5.25 percent concent ra t ion) bleach mixed with 5 gallons of water and soak for 15 minutes.6.Air dry cans or retort pouches for a minimum of 1 hour before opening or storing.7 . I f t h e l a b e l s w e r e removable, then re-label your cans or retort pouches, including the expiration date, with a permanent marking pen.FAPC, a par t o f OSU’s Division of Agricultural S c i e n c e s a n d N a t u r a l Resources, helps to discover, develop and deliver technical and business information that will st imulate and support the growth of value-added food and agricultural products and processing in Oklahoma.Rachel Lockwood is the Family Consumer Science Extension Educator with P i t t s b u rg C o u n t y O S U Cooperative Extension

GRASS TETANYGrass tetany is a serious, often fatal metabolic disorder characterized by low levels of magnesium in the blood serum of cattle. It is also called grass staggers and

wheat pasture poisoning. It primarily affects older cows nursing calves less than two months old, but it may also occur in young or dry cows and growing calves. It

happens most frequently when cattle are grazing succulent, immature grass and often affects the best cows in the herd.High nitrogen fertilization r e d u c e s m a g n e s i u m ava i l ab i l i ty, e spec ia l ly onsoils high in potassium or aluminum. Grass tetany occurs most frequently in the spring, often following a cool p e r i o d ( t e m p e r a t u r e s between 45 and 60°F) when grass is growing rapidly, but also is seen in the fall with new growth of cool season grass or wheat pastures.Typical signs of grass tetany begin with an uncoordinated gait and terminate with convulsions, coma, and

death. Animals on pasture are often found dead without illness having been observed. Evidence of thrashing will usually be apparent around the cow if grass tetany is the cause of death. The prevention of grass tetany depends largely on avoiding conditions that c a u s e i t . G r a z e l e s s susceptible animals on high risk pastures. Steers, heifers, dry cows, and cows with calves over 4 months old are less likely to develop tetany. The use of dolomite or high Mg limestone on pastures and including legumes in pasture mixes will decrease the incidence of tetany in grazing cattle. In areas where tetany

frequently occurs, feed cows supplemental magnesium. Supplementation increases blood magnesium levels and alleviates much of the grass tetany problem. Adequate amounts of magnesium must be consumed on a daily basis.

WHY ISN’T BEING GOOD GOOD ENOUGH?

By: Gina Stanley

The other day, I read that turtles live out their lives in a one square mile area. If

they are removed from that area – like in a cardboard box in a kid’s bedroom – and

then released into the wild that is not their original homeland, they wander around the rest of their lives lost, confused and sad. I’m not sure how the researchers could determine the level of melancholy in a box turtle, but it did ring true with me. For years, I was that mom who discouraged the pet turtle phase because I just felt so sorry for the little creature. “Where is his family?” I would ask my kids as they planned to live out their life with a reptilian roommate. Ultimately I won the battle because, well, I’m the mom.B u t t h e t h o u g h t o f a displaced turtle roaming around the woods made me think of my Grandmother. She was born in 1899 and l ived through cultural c h a n g e s l i k e t h e introduction of air travel, televisions and pantsuits for women. She embraced two of the three, flying to The Holy Land in the 1980s and using me as a sit-in to watch her “story”, As The World Tu r n s w h e n s h e h a d somewhere else to be. (DVR’s are something she didn’t get to see). To my k n o w l e d g e s h e n e v e r donned a pantsuit though. Some things just aren’t worth the change I guess. But what would she think if we could pluck her from heaven and put her down in this strange land of the 21st century? I think she would j o i n t u r t l e s i n b e i n g confused and sad.My grandmother was a church-going lady. She was

active with her circle – a group of similarly aged women who socialized, Bible studied and made arts & crafts. Many a morning I roamed a round Grand Avenue Methodist Church as she and her friends made crochet toilet paper covers o r b e d a z z l e d v e l v e t tablecloths that would be sold at the church Christmas Bazaar.She loved to listen to Billy G r a h a m . S h e e n j o y e d cooking for her family. She was kind and caring and gave much of her time in service to others through her church. She had a heart for t h o s e l e s s f o r t u n a t e . Because she lived through the Dust Bowl, she knew what it meant to take in family and provide help to neighbors. But she didn’t march, or picket or make demands of people who didn’t see eye to eye with her.But in today’s culture, all of her good stuff wouldn’t be e n o u g h . D e m a n d s a r e p l a c e d o n C h r i s t i a n business people to bow to cultural pressures under the guise of tolerance and i n c l u s i o n . Fa i l u r e t o publicly denounce the offense of the day results in accusations of bigotry and threats to picket or file a lawsuit.Hollywood - and even some p o l i t i c i a n s - p o r t r a y Chr is t ian be l ievers as simple-minded or intolerant and almost always morally compromised. Today, the simple offer of prayers is criticized and

dismissed. There are Americans who believe Christianity is a violent, hostile institution that teaches judgment and hate. People who believe that did not meet my grandmother. O r m a n y o t h e r grandmothers who still believe that God calls them to be His hands and feet by doing little things around the church and in their

communities. In 2019 my grandmother would be confused by cell phones. But the way her Christian walk has been belittled and diminished is what would make her sad. I’ve been down here this whole time – and it makes me sad too.

ARIES (Mar. 21- April 20) You can make financial gains through investments and dealing with other people's money. Ask others to help, or you may feel that a burden is weighing you down. You must make them stand on their own two feet regardless of how much you want to make things better for them.

TAURUS (Apr. 21- May 21) Romance could develop through social activities or short trips. Do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Be careful. They will not be in the right frame of mind to put up with tactless comments.

GEMINI (May 22-June 21) Your professional attitude will not go unnoticed. Consider starting a small business on the side. Look for a marketable gimmick. You will get along well in social situations.

CANCER (June 22-July 22) Your intellectual charm will entice mates who have common interests. Don't turn down offers that include sports activities or children. Don't be too open or put your faith in unreliable coworkers.

LEO (July 23-Aug 22) Changes in your home may be disruptive and upsetting. Your involvement in sports or entertainment will lead to new romances. The locks, stove, gas, or electric wires may not be secure.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 -Sept. 23) Put your money into a safe place that will ensure a profit if you let it sit long enough. Be fair, not colorful. You can accomplish a lot if you deal with other people's money or possessions today.

LIBRA (Sept. 24 -Oct. 23) Take the initiative and go after your goals. Travel should be on your agenda. Creative pursuits should payoff.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Let others know what your intentions are and be honest in your approach. Don't let others restrict you from saying how you feel about family issues. Keep busy and let them fume while you're not around.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) You will be too quick to point your finger at your mate. Avoid lending or borrowing. Your outgoing nature might work against you today.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22.- Jan. 20) You will be able to borrow money in order to invest. Having your own business is a good idea. Work quietly behind the scenes for best results.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 21 -Feb. 19) Sit tight. Things aren't as bad as they appear. Later in the week your boss will pat you on the back for a job well done. Strong willpower will come to your rescue.

PISCES (Feb. 20-Mar. 20) You could experience unusual circumstances and meet eccentric individuals. Don't let children hold you back from doing things you enjoy. You can't lock your partner up and if you keep restricting their freedom you may be left out in the cold.
