Interstate Route 271 and Cedar/Brainard Rds. Interchange Improvements

What is the Purpose of the Project? The purpose of the project is to improve safety at the I-271 interchange by reducing congestion. Additionally, the signals along the corridor currently are not operating as efficiently as they could. Often times queues of vehicles waiting to turn left onto northbound Brainard Road back onto Interstate Route 271 Northbound. A very dangerous situation is then created where vehicles are stopped on the freeway as a result of waiting to get through the traffic signal.

Construction Complete (October 2017) 

Project Description

1. Add a third lane on NB Exit Ramp approach to allow double lefts and double rights.

2. Provide an additional lane on Brainard NB to Edenhall Drive. 3. Add NB 3rd lane to Brainard between Cedar and IR-271

entrance ramp (400’). 4. Channelize curb lane on Brainard SB right turn lane at Cedar
