Action:
laterally flexes each respective pair of vertebrae
(also eccentric muscle contraction provides stability)
Blood: muscular branches of the aorta
Nerve: dorsal rami of spinal nerves

Insertion: between superior and inferior nuchal line of occiput
Action:
bilaterally extends the head
