Bakal, MD Curtis Lewis, MD David Sacks, MD In the current practice environment, interventional radiologists face continued challenges in maintain- ing referral patterns and fighting predatory incur- sions from competing, and often less well trained, specialists. Developing a coherent program for quality improvement (QI) and procedure specific credentialing is becoming an essential strategy for many practices in fighting such predatory behav- ior; conversely, not developing such a program may prove catastrophic. In addition to protecting referral patterns, QI guidelines can be utilized to maintain high quality patient care and when re- questing personnel and equipment resources. Reg- istrants will learn how to set up a quality improve- ment and credentials program and apply published guidelines to their practice environment. Case studies from real practice situations will be pre- sented, and the nuts and bolts of developing a QI program will be discussed. Registrants will be en- couraged to discuss problems, strategies, and so- lutions encountered in their practices.
