Hi There...?Vox

POPWhat makes Sandals Grande

Riviera so special?

OMAR DAVIS Food and Beverage

What makes Sandals Grande special is that we have an amazing team of managers and team members working together. Also the property is ultra romantic and a haven for couples wanting a great vacation. Here it’s all about love. Have to say Big Up to our General Manager Mr. Roper for motivating the team.

ODEAN HENRY Landscaping

We have the most amazing vegetation and landscaping here at Sandals Grande Riviera. The place is like a Garden of Eden. And the bond between management and staff makes it an exceptional place to work.

MORVEL PARKER Resort Shop

There are many opportunities for team members: pension and health schemes and discounts to sister companies. Our Human Resources team keeps us informed and up to date and makes working a pleasure. It’s just a really solid team to be a part of and that makes it special.

RICARDO WILLIAMS SnapShots

It’s special from a photographer’s point of view in that it offers so many diverse scenery for us to take photos of our guests, thus boosting our revenue. The family atmosphere and team work between staff and management is what sets it apart from the rest.

WAYS TO

Page 5: inTouch March 2014

1. COMPETENCEYou’re good at what you do – and you have the skills and

knowledge that enable you to do your job well.

2. RELIABILITYPeople can depend on you to show up on time, submit your

work when it’s supposed to be ready, etc.

3. HONESTYYou tell the truth and are upfront about where things stand.

4. INTEGRITYYou are known for your consistent principles.

5. RESPECT FOR OTHERSTreating all people as if they mattered is part of your

approach.

6. SELF-UPGRADINGRather than letting your skills or knowledge become

outdated, you seek out ways of staying current.

7. BEING POSITIVENo one likes a constant pessimist. Having an upbeat attitude

and trying to be a problem-solver makes a big difference.

8. SUPPORTING OTHERSYou share the spotlight with colleagues, take time to show

others how to do things properly, and lend an ear when

necessary.

9. STAYING FOCUSED Not letting your private life needlessly have an impact

on your job, and not spending time at work attending to

personal matters.

10. LISTENING CAREFULLYPeople want to be heard, so you give people a chance to

explain their ideas properly.

ACTING LIKE A PROFESSIONAL...really means doing what it takes to make others think of you as reliable, respectful, and com-petent. Depending on the type of job you have, this can take on many different forms. There are, however, quite a few common traits when it comes to being professional. This includes the following:

The more you put into practice the 10 points listed above, the better your chances will be to create a positive reputation for yourself. This can ultimately translate into raises and promotions, chances to work on more assignments that you enjoy, less likelihood of being downsized when layoffs are being considered, and the respect of peers and senior management.

THE PROFESSIONAL ADVANTAGE

Teamwork and the support of others is a vital part of professionalism and the success that comes with it!

things without regret.

7. If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?Martin Luther King Jr.’s I have a dream speech, because MLK was a man

who inspired so many different people from different backgrounds.

want to get into and did I mention tasty?

Sandals Resorts within the Montego Bay region engaged

representatives from the Jamaica Constabulary Force

(JCF) and the Social Development Commission in

discussions regarding the creation of impactful and

sustainable youth empowerment programmes in the

parish of St. James. The discussions were had during a

luncheon at Sandals Montego Bay.

The primary aim of the Youth Empowerment

Programme, is to engage youths within the inner-city

in several recreational, academic, skills training and

income generating opportunities.

Sandals Resorts showcased their commitment to

the Youth Empowerment Programme by sponsoring

sporting gears and equipment to the Montego Bay

Police Youth Club. The sponsored gears and equipment

will help to boost the club’s sports programme that

will in turn see more youths participating in after-

school training sessions and representing the club in

both football and netball league competitions.

The logo is the complete image that you see - inclusive

of fonts, colour, proportions etc. You may not notice some

small detail, or consider it insignificant, however, it was

placed there for a very specific reason. Without all these

details, it would become a different thing entirely.

The main design element of the Sandals and Beaches

logos are the font choices. At a quick glance they are very

similar, however they are two different fonts. Can you

identify some differences between these logos? What are

the similarities?

One look at a company’s logo and immediate associations

are made. The company has pent the last 31 years

determinedly building a brand that represents excellence,

luxury and above all else - quality. Quality in the product/

service that is offered, and an unbridled quality and pride

in the presentation of that service.

That is why the correct use of the Sandals, Beaches and

other company logos is extremely important and why they

should always be respected.

You may occasionally need to use the company logos on

various pieces of collateral - for a presentation perhaps or

a quick flyer. Whatever the cause, we all want our designs

to be beautiful and eye catching.

With all that said, read on for some quick do’s and don’ts

as per the company logo guidelines.

DISTORTING THE LOGO

ADDING YOUR OWN ‘FLAIR’

CREATING YOUR OWN COLOUR PALETTE

The gray logos are the

proportionally correct logos. The

red have been mercilessly stretched.

This usually occurs when attempts

are made to resize the logo.

DESIGN TIP: When resizing, grab

the edge of the box that the logo is

in and press SHIFT and drag. This

will ensure that the logo (or any

image) is resized proportionately.

Sometimes it may be tempting to add elements

to the logo to complete it. Perhaps you wanted

to use the Luxury Included® version of the

logo but can only access the Sandals logo sans

tagline. It may be tempting to simply type

your own tagline. Unless you know the exact

font and size used, do not do this. Additionally,

do not add elements to the logo to make it

‘better’.

DESIGN TIP: Request the specific logo that

is needed from your PR Manager.

With so many approved colours to choose from

there’s really no need to invent your own colour

scheme. Coulour selection should be based on what

visuals or colours are behind the logo, so that the

logo is as clear and bright as possible.

Any other colors must be approved by the PR

department before release.

DESIGN TIP: 1. Request the specific logo that

is needed from your PR Manager. 2. Black and

other shades of gray are usually acceptable logo

colours. This is especially true if multiple logos are

used on the same page. Using too many colours

is distracting and may make the artwork look

cartoonish.

4 QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK YOURSELF EVERY DAYMany people just start the day by following their to-do list

and checking their e-mail. I learned that the most effective

way to coach yourself is to ask yourself 4 powerful questions

every day. Ask yourself 2 questions at the beginning of the

day and 2 questions at the end of the day. It makes sure

you’re much more focused on things that really matter and

makes every day more fun.

Take 15 minutes to ask yourself 4 questions and write down

the answers. It’s the most powerful way to train your brain.

It gives you a better understanding on what things you

need to improve and gives a better feeling because you’re

working towards your long term goals.

THE 2 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF AT THE BEGINNING OF EVERY DAY:

1. WHAT ARE MY GOALS TODAY?Most people have goals in the long term, but don’t trans-

late them to the short term. If you want to grow your

business by 20 percent in the coming year, what are you

doing today to reach that long term goal? Are you really

doing the right things today to reach those goals? The

only way to reach your long term goals is to work on it on

a daily basis.

Ask yourself every day: What are my goals today?

2. WHAT ARE MY CHALLENGES TODAY?Successful people set themselves challenges every day.

It’s a way of living. You have to challenge yourself every

day, to get the most out of you and become better, faster

and smarter. It will make life much more interesting. Set

yourself challenges and enjoy the journey.

Ask yourself every day: What are my challenges today?

THE 2 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF AT THE END OF EVERY DAY:1. HAVE I REACHED MY GOALS FOR TODAY?Of course, only setting yourself goals at the beginning

of each day isn’t enough. You have to evaluate yourself.

Make sure you don’t get lost in excuses, by telling yourself

that you weren’t able to reach your goals today. The goals

you’ve set by yourself in the morning, were the goals you

wanted to reach. Have you succeed?

If yes, take a moment to enjoy the fact that you reached

it and ask yourself what you’ve done good today to reach

your goals. If not, ask yourself what you can do better the

next day to make sure you reach your goals. If you fail

to reach your daily goals day by day, try different ways of

working to improve it. Don’t give up. If you reach your

daily goals day by day, try giving yourself more ambitious

goals and look what’s happening.

Ask yourself every day: Have I reached my goals for

today?

2. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED TODAY?To become better, faster and smarter, you have to learn

every day. Take a moment every day, to ask yourself what

you’ve learned today. It can be everything, as small or as

big as you want. If you don’t learn enough, take a critical

look at the goals and challenges you set every day. If you

learn a lot, life will be much more fun.

Ask yourself every day: What have I learned today?
