Describe the Creative Workflow/Asset Library Environment

Define Creative Workflow/Asset LibraryCreative Workflow software provides server-based collaboration designed to support content creation. It can be used in conjunction with Asset Library which is a companion software product for the management of digital assets. Asset Library supports registering, locating, and repurposing of images, content, and artwork.

The standalone Creative Workflow and Asset Library environment may be found in an agency where collaboration occurs between individuals who are either at the agency location or on assignment in the field. Files can be uploaded using an internet connection to the Creative Workflow collaborative environment. Once there, the files can be shared, put in an approval cycle, and marked up. Live chats about the contents of a project can occur as well.

Kodak InSite Creative Workflow provides a sandbox within which many people can work together to flesh out ideas for a creative project such as a publication, label, or business brochure. Each Creative Workflow project contains elements which could be photographs, text, or graphics. These elements are uploaded to Creative Workflow for review and approval. Elements can be marked up at a time convenient to independent reviewers or an online discussion can be held at a time convenient to many reviewers. Once final approval is reached, Asset Library can be used to store finalized elements for reuse in later projects.

Describe the Tasks and Roles in a Creative Workflow Environment

Although there are many possibilities for job interaction within the Creative Workflow/ Asset Library environment, one possibility is outlined in the Creative workflow using Creative Workflow standalone diagram. Within this view, the Creative Agency has purchased Creative Workflow standalone to provide their employees who work from satellite offices an opportunity to collaborate on joint creative projects. The Agency employs a Site Manager, Content Manager/Reader, Photographer and Graphic Designer.

Site ManagerThe Site Manager has system administrative privileges on the Agency's networks. Within the Creative Workflow environment, the Site Manager's role is to setup and maintain the administrative functionality so that internal staff and clients can collaborate within the Creative Workflow environment.

Content ManagerThe Content Manager/Reader could be a lawyer, accountant, or writer who contributes text to the creative project. They may also be required to verify content for copyright or financial accuracy. These individuals will be able to upload content to a collaborative project and also participate in the review and approval process.

PhotographerPhotographers may be consigned to provide original photographs but may not have a vote in the review or approval process. In this scenario, photographers can only provide content but have no other responsibilities.

Graphic DesignerThe Agency in this scenario has decided that Graphic Designers are not only responsible for uploading images but also for collaborating on elements that have been uploaded. Their responsibilities are further extended to creating page layouts and collaborating on these as well. Finally, they are also responsible for uploading any approved PDF or PS files to a Commercial Printer.

ClientNote that a Client is also identified as a part of the creative workflow. In many instances, clients are interested in collaborating with the Graphic Designers and Content Managers/Readers to ensure that their intent appears in the final product. Therefore, the ability to collaborate on specific projects can be assigned to clients by the Site Manager.

Note: If more than one person is fulfilling the same role, as is the case with “Collaborate on and Approving Content Elements”, a dotted line appears in the diagram indicating that the responsibilities are shared.
