Setting Up a Site in Dreamweaver

• Follow Mrs. Sanchez’s example on screen

Adding a page to your site

• First, click on the site name to select it. It will be highlighted.

Next Steps

Then, you have several options to add a new file. I like to right click and select “new file”

Naming the new file

• You’ll be able to give the file a new name here. If you don’t change the name, it stays as “untitled.html”.

• BEWARE! Make sure that you keep the .html at the end of the file name.

• Since this will be the home page of our site, what should we name it?

•WHY should we give it this name?

Home Page File Names – Compare Your Answer

• The home page of any web site should be index.html

• That’s because this page will come up automatically when you enter a web address.

• For example, when you go to “sanchez.tcsd.org”, the page named index.html automatically appears

• If I didn’t name my first page index.html, you’d have to type in the address AND the file name, like:

• Sanchez.tcsd.org/mrssanchez.html
