The Early Years In 2000, Capgemini acquires Ernst &

Young's Consulting Division globally and establishes the presence of Capgemini in India. The new entity is called ‘Capgemini Ernst & Young’.

In 2001, Capgemini India opens its first development center in Mumbai, with 250 engineers.

In 2003, The employee-base of Capgemini India reaches 1,000.

In 2004, The employee-base of Capgemini India reaches 1,000. Capgemini would drop the suffix ‘Ernst & Young’ to establish its current brand name ‘Capgemini’.

In 2005, Capgemini centers in India are certified as CMMi 5.

With 3,000 employees, Capgemini India’s workforce increases almost two times in the same year.

Rapid growth through acquisitions

In 2006,Capgemini boosts it BPO Finance and Accounting business in India after acquiring 51% stake in Hindustan Unilever's Shared Services Division, Indigo. Indigo's 600 employees are added to Capgemini’s India employee-base.

Capgemini would complete the takeover in 2010 by acquiring the remaining 49%.

In 2007,Capgemini acquires Kanbay for $1.25 billion. The acquisition increases the employee-base of Capgemini India to over 12,000 and adds centers in Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad.

Capgemini announces the creation of its strategic Financial Services Global Business Unit (FS GBU) and revamps its Development and Training Center, spread over 14,000 sq. ft., in Talwade, Pune.

Consolidation and Organic Growth

In 2008,Capgemini India starts its Local Businesses Services (LBS) division to serve the Indian market. 

In 2010,Capgemini acquires Indian IT Firm Thesys and enhances its capabilities in the BFSI segment. The employee-base of Capgemini India BPO crosses 5,000.

In 2011,Capgemini's Local Business Services (LBS) division now has more than 1,200 professionals serving more than 60 clients in India.

New strategies for Growth

The early 1990s proved to be a turbulent time for the Group. Huge changes rocked the technology world, as well as the broader economy.
