Creating Your Free Account

1. Visit the Zoom account registration page. For best results, use the most current version of your web browser. Sign up here: https://zoom.us/freesignup/

2. Enter your email address and click on the “Sign Up, It’s Free” button

3. Zoom will send an activation email to your inbox. Check your email account and click the “Activate Account” button:

4. Once you have selected the “Activate Your Account” button, you will be redirected to a Zoom page where you can complete your registration:

Scheduling a Meeting

1) Now that you have registered for a Zoom account, you can begin scheduling meetings. To schedule a meeting, visit the Zoom home page (https://www.zoom.us/) and log into your free account. Then click on “Schedule a Meeting” from the options in the upper right hand corner:

2) Here you will be able to set up the details of your meeting. Enter the details requested, such as the topic, time, and duration, and then click “Save”. NOTE: The free account has a 40 minute time limit on meetings with three or more people.

Inviting Others to a Meeting

1) Once you have scheduled and saved your meeting, you will be able to add the meeting to your calendar and copy the meeting invitation. First, click on the “Copy the invitation “ button:

2) When you select the “copy the invitation” you will see the meeting invite, which includes a URL for others to use to enter the meeting room. You can copy this invitation and share with those you wish to invite to the meeting. To invite others to your meeting, copy the content of the meeting invite and paste into your email account or the discussion forum in the classroom. Users can join using your unique zoom room URL (highlighted below).

Starting Your Meeting

1) When you are ready to start the meeting, sign into your account, and go to “My Meetings”. You will see your scheduled meeting listed in the “upcoming meetings” window. Select the “Start” option to begin your meeting:

Reviewing Slides During a Presentation

The Zoom video conferencing tool also allows you to share and review a presentation during a meeting. This section will familiarize you with how to review presentation slides during a presentation within Zoom.

1) While you are in the Zoom meeting room, make sure to have your PowerPoint presentation open on your desktop.

2) Click on the “Share Screen” button in your Zoom meeting toolbar:

3) This will give you an option to choose any of the open windows or applications you might share. Select the PowerPoint presentation to share:

4) Once you have selected your PowerPoint to share, from within the PowerPoint program, choose the “From Beginning” option under the “Slide Show” tab in order to visually expand your presentation:

5) Use the arrows in the Zoom window to page between your slides. If you saved notes in your PowerPoint presentation, they will be displayed on the right side of your Zoom window:

6) Select “End Slide Show” in your Zoom toolbar when your presentation is complete:

How to Record Meetings and Save to Your Computer

1) The Zoom video conferencing tool allows you to record your meeting. You must start your meeting in order to record it. Note that only hosts can record meetings. Once the meeting has started, select the “Record” option from the bottom toolbar:

2) When you are ready to conclude your meeting, select the “Stop Recording” option and end the meeting.

3) Your recording will be automatically downloaded to your computer. If you need to know where the file is located, go to your Zoom account, then select “My Recordings”, and then the “Local Recordings” tab:

4) Look beneath the “Location” heading for the location of the file on your computer:

How to Upload a Pre-Recorded Video into the Classroom

Using Zoom video conferencing or other video recording tools, you may have a video file that you need to submit as part of an assignment into the classroom. This section will familiarize you with uploading the video files into the classroom.

1.) Uploading a pre-recorded video into the classroom, begins with similar steps to creating a video submission for an assignment or discussion in the classroom. You will see a “Reply” link just below the assignment/discussion prompt, or, if replying to an instructor or student post, there will be a “Reply” link at the bottom of the post. Click on the “Reply” link.

2.) On the next screen click on the “Play” (triangle in a rectangle) video button.

3.) Choose the “Upload Media” tab and press the “Select Video File” button to browser your computer for the video file saved to your computer. A loading bar will progress indicating that the video is uploading as well as the title of the video file and the file size. Once the upload is complete, you will be returned to the text field in order to post your submission.
