INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS THE CERTIFIED HVAC PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PATHWAY?

• The Certified HVAC Professional certification pathway consists of 5 exams: HVAC Fundamentals, Electrical & Controls, Comfort & Airflow, Installation, and Service. Each exam contains 30 questions and has a 1-hour time limit. They can be taken in any order, but NATE recommends taking the exams in the order listed above for the easiest progression.

• Like all NATE certifications, a proctor must be present to administer the exam. A candidate can choose to test in-person with a local proctor at a NATE testing organization or sign up to take the exam online with a remote live online proctor.

• To find a local proctor to test in-person please use the “Locate a Testing Organization” search tool at NATEX.org.

• To sign up for the exams online with a remote live online proctor, please follow this step-by-step instruction guide.

WHAT IS REMOTE LIVE ONLINE PROCTORING?

• Live Online Proctored Exams allow you the convenience of taking a NATE exam from your home or office using a computer, webcam, and stable internet connection.

• A trained remote proctor will monitor you remotely in real time using your webcam in order to ensure the integrity of the exam.

• Additionally, after the session is complete, a recording of the session is then reviewed.

• Trained professional remote proctors ensure that our remote testing is secure and trustworthy, while giving you the flexibility to take the exam in a location of your choice.

• The first step to using Live Online Proctoring (LOP) is to log on to the myNATE website, www.myNATE.org.

• If you already have an account, login using your existing username and password. If you do not have a myNATE account, please click on the “First Time User?” tab.

• After clicking on the "First Time User" tab, select your activation type as “Technician.”

• Then select “No Exam” as your exam type.

• Then select “No” to the question of having an existing account.

• Complete the fields below, including selecting a username and password, to create your account.

• You will receive an email to verify your email address. Click on the link in that email to finalize your account creation.

• Reminder: If you have tested with NATE before and have an account, you can skip this step.

• Once you are logged into your myNATE account, click on the “Certified HVAC Professional” tab.

• Next, click on “Exam Progress.”

• The screen will show you the new 5 exams required to obtain certification.

• To sign up for the exam you must click on the exam title and an option for Live Online Proctoring will be available.

• Once you click on “Live Online Proctoring” you will see two links to verify your computer meets the system requirements needed to successfully launch the exam. Please make sure that your computer meets these requirements prior to your scheduled exam date.

• Clicking on “Examination Delivery Requirements,” will open a new tab to SCANTRON where you can test your computer.

• Next, click on “Live Online Proctor Requirements,” this will open a new tab to EXAMITY where you can test your computer.

• Once you have passed all requirements, you may close this tab and return to your myNATE account.

• Make sure your preferred time zone and email address is accurate before clicking on “Attestation” in green.

• Check the box “attest” and click “Payment.”

• The exam you have chosen to purchase will appear under “Item” with its corresponding price. Click “Pay by credit card” to check out.

• Once you have entered the credit card information click “Next.”

• Remember to email yourself a copy of the receipt by entering your email in the field below and click “Send.” You can also click “Print receipt” to print it immediately. If you’d like to email the receipt to a third-party you can enter their email as well and click “Send”.

• Once you are ready to schedule your exam, click on “Go to System Check.” Since you have done the system check earlier, you can now click on “Go to Examity.”

• This will bring you to the SCANTRON-EXAMITY Dashboard where you can schedule the exam you purchased.

• If you have any questions, feel free to use the chat box in the lower right-hand corner for assistance.

• Once you click on "Schedule Exam" please complete your profile.

• Once you have updated your information (time zone and phone number), click save and you will see “Account information has been updated successfully” in green. Now you can click on the tab “Schedule Exam.”

• To Schedule, first click select NATE under “Exam Program” and select the exam you are scheduling for under “Exam Name.”

• Please select a date and time to fit your schedule. Turn off “On-Demand Scheduling” to select a time more than 24 hours out.

• Once you have scheduled your exam, you will receive a confirmation email.

• This email will contain your username and password to log in on exam day as well as the link to take you to the login page. Please print a copy of this email prior to your scheduled exam session. When the proctor checks you in on exam day, you will be prompted for the exam password which is stated in this email.
