    THE NAME

    Its name derived from the underlying technology, which utilizes a

    Violet laser.

    That read and write data. it's a combination of BLUE blue violet

    Laser and RAY "optical ray.According to BDA its not a mistake in spelling of blu-ray character

    e was intentionally left out so the terms could be registered as

    Trade mark.

    Correct abbreviation is BD not BD

    There are four types of BD formats.

    BD-ROM(read only): for reading recorded content.

    BD-R(readable): for pc data storage.

    BD-RW(rewritable): for pc data storage

    BD-RE(rewritable): for HDTV(high definition television)recording.

    TYPES OF BD

    SINGLE LAYER-: can hold up to 25/27 gb that means 2 hrs or 13 hrs or

    about 13 hrs of standard video.

    DOUBLE LAYER-: can hold up to 50gb that means 4.5 hrs or about

    20 hrs standard video.

    Does not suffer from disc tilt.

    Hard coating is placed out side to

    protect from scratches or finger

    Data is sandwich b/w two

    polycarbonate layer, each 0.6

    mm thick.

    Suffer from disc tilt.No such hard coating is placed.
