Need

As in many specialties, the options for diagnosing, treating and managing cardiovascular disorders evolve continually, sometimes at a dizzying rate. In addition to plotting the best course of treatment, primary care providers must also keep a careful eye on cost-effectiveness and utilization. Patients have changed, too – becoming increasingly sophisticated as information becomes more accessible.

We have designed this symposium to help you keep pace with new developments in the field, and have chosen topics and presenters to cover familiar ground as well as to map out areas of frontier exploration.

Target Audience

This symposium is designed for family practitioners, internists, cardiologists and emergency department physicians who diagnose, treat and manage patients with cardiovascular disorders. It will also be of interest to fellows, residents, PAs, MAs and NPs.

Elements of Competence

This CME activity has been designed to change medical knowledge and patient care, two of the six competencies embraced by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

ObjectivesAt the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Review the latest treatments in various vascular problems

2. Describe the indications for action in treating arrhythmias

3. List the new treatments in cardiovascular disease

4. Identify emerging diagnostic methods for cardiovascular disease
