So what is it?

Simply put (by someone else):

“The expression ‘Linked Data’ is used to describe a method of exposing, sharing, and

connecting data on the web”

What does this man and this band have in common?

They both appear as linked data on the internet!

What do these two things have in common?

MelbourneBearbrass

They are different names for the same geographic location, and they appear on the internet as linked open data...but I digress.

Some insightful words on linked open data by Dr Tim Sherratt

ontology)

How do we describe data e.g. people, places, events, thoughts, feelings, images, twitter accounts to a machine?

• We need ontologies, formats, a way of uniquely identifying things, and a way of making these things discoverable over the internet

• If we do this we can start to make assertions about things that describe them in terms that machines can understand

• Then machines can help us link all this data together so that the internet becomes one big global database of human knowledge

Formats?RDF describes resources with classes, properties, and

values

e.g. Asa is a person with a weight of x kgs
