Designing a Spreadsheet
Row
• identified by numbers
• horizontal
• Row 3 refers to all of the contents in a
horizontal range of cells on Row 3
Designing a Spreadsheet
Cell
• individual locations on a spreadsheet
• intersection of a row and column
Cells
Active cell
• The cell that is selected• It is the cell that is ready to receive
information• The cell you are currently working in
Cell Specifics
Cell Address refers to a specific location
A4 is an example of a Cell address
• It is the Column letter and Row number.
The cell address is also called the cell
reference.
Cell Specifics
Cell Range refers to a group of adjacent cells
A4:A16 is an example of a Range• It is a group/block of cells that form a
rectangle when selected
Example: ‘All Years’!A6:E16 refers to a range of cells in a specific spreadsheet.
Entering Data into a
Spreadsheet
Labels – name used for cells that
contain text or for numbers that will
not be used in calculations
Values – name used for cells that
indicates that the data has the
potential to be used for calculations
