About the Bayeux Tapestry

• It shows the Norman conquest of England.

• Origin unknown• One theory is that it

was commissioned by Bishop of Bayeux, half brother of William the Conqueror, leader of the Norman invasion in 1066.

• English and England have the same root word: Engle.

• Engle meaning the “Angles” referring to one of the three Germanic Tribes: Angles, Saxons, and Jutes.

• These Germanic Tribes migrated to England in 449.

• English means language of the Angles.
