PAGES

Pages are static and are not listed by date

Pages do not use tags or categories

An About page is the classic example

https://wordpress.org/about/

POSTS

Listed in Archives, Categories, Recent Posts, and other widgets, in reverse chronological order

Pages

The heart of your site

Page 16: Introduction to WordPress Class 2

Pages are for STATIC content such as About, Contact…

Pages live outside of the normal blog chronology,

Present timeless information about yourself or your site --information that is always applicable

You can use Pages to organize & manage any content

Like Sections of a Newspaper

Most Themes use Menus linked to Pages

Categories allow you to classify similar posts. You create a fixed number of categories from the Edit Post

Tags allow you to “filter on the fly” and display posts that have related tag words

WordPress includes a nice feature called word cloud which displays your site’s tag words

These tag words could be re-used to submit to Search Engines so people can find your blog posts

Categories & Tags

Page 23: Introduction to WordPress Class 2

Each post in WordPress is filed under one or more Categories

This aids in navigation and allows posts to be grouped with others of similar content

Example: Football related posts under the SPORTS section of your site…

Also know as PERMALINK [or permanent link]

A slug is used to help create a valid URL to the listing of a category, post, tags, etc.

So while a category might be named “I Like Mom's Cooking” the corresponding slug would be i-like-moms-cooking

If you don't make one for yourself, WP will make one for you!

It’s convenient to remember & to submit to search engines!

Image galleries are a great way to share groups of pictures on your WordPress site

The Create Gallery feature of the WordPress media uploader allows you to add a simple image gallery to pages or posts on your site

You can enhance the picture navigation also with lots of plugins [try the simple LIGHT BOX plugin]
