About us

YSC is one of the world’s leading business psychology consulting companies. Every day we help organisations of all sizes to get the most out of their people. We do this through individual and team assessment and development; executive coaching; organisational consulting; and the management of change through our online survey division.

We work with a diverse range of global and local clients, government departments and non-profit organisations. Our level of client retention is, we believe, among the highest in the industry. Many of our clients have been with us since we were first established and their recommendations have led to an increase in our size and scope over the years. We remain client-centric and have opened a global network of offices to reflect this.

We have assessed in excess of 20,000 individuals and our assessment methodology has won recognition as one of the most thorough and incisive. YSC assessments – used for hiring and developing senior level talent – provide rich, substantial insights into an individual’s distinctive qualities, their spike strengths and their stretches. Tailored towards top management teams and other senior executives, our experienced consultants conduct the process with your business objectives, culture and organisational values front of mind.

Our assessment methodology

• A pre-brief and debrief with the business leader and/or HR business partner commissioning the assessment to ensure we are immersed in the business context.

• An in-person, half-day biographical assessment during which we explore the individual’s career and background, achievements, performance, influences and challenges as well as the personal and psychological characteristics that underpin the person’s success. We also use psychometric tools to gain a deeper understanding of the individual. The information gathered from the psychometrics is fed back during the assessment and used to promote further discussion.

• A report describing the person’s characteristics, job-relevant strengths, development needs and longer-term potential.

• An optional two hour feedback and coaching session which provides an opportunity to discuss the report and to start building on the insights it offers.

Executive Coaching

Coaching is a critical ingredient for maximising individual and team performance. Popular both for its flexibility and its effectiveness, it is a proven way of preventing derailment and achieving dramatic breakthroughs in performance. It is also a powerful and visible way of recognising rising stars, building their capability and boosting their commitment. The return on investment can be considerable, with reputable studies of Fortune 500 firms calculating that coaching can deliver as much as 689% ROI (source: Booz Allen and Metrix Global).

One to One Coaching – We provide bespoke coaching for senior business leaders, wherever they are in the world. Our coaches combine strong commercial acumen with a keen psychological insight honed from YSC’s expertise as the industry leader in business psychology. We employ innovative technology to monitor and sustain change, and to demonstrate ROI. Additionally, our size and scope allow us to support integrated, global initiatives in over 25 languages and more than 25 countries.

Team Coaching – Coaching intact teams – rather than just individuals – is an efficient way of building greater awareness, trust and alignment. We use a Team Model that considers Focus, Internal Dynamics, External Relationships and the ability to Execute in order to build high performing teams. This is particularly effective when combined with 1:1 sessions that support and develop individual team members.

Managed Coaching Service – Organisations are increasingly looking for an expert partner who can manage their in-house coaching process from end-to-end, providing control of inputs, clear metrics and quality assurance. Our Managed Coaching Service ensures clients get all the benefits of executive coaching without having to manage it themselves.

Team Effectiveness

An ineffective team is more destructive to an organisation than individual contributors falling short. Life gets complicated working in large, global, matrixed organisations. Senior executives belong to and lead multiple

Karen West PhDDirector & Head of YSC India

Karen is a Director and Head of YSC India, based in Mumbai. Since joining YSC, Karen has worked extensively with a range of multinational clients in sectors that include oil and gas, FMCG, and pharmaceuticals. She is part of YSC’s senior leadership team and brings over 12 years of line management experience. Karen is renowned for her high speed development of executive talent, especially within organisations facing crises caused by challenging business results.

Prior to YSC, Karen worked for an international leadership development consultancy supporting a range of clients in sectors such as government, manufacturing, retail, pharmaceutical, mining, utilities, hospitality, and non-profit. Her early career was with the US Armed Forces where she served as a Lieutenant Commander Aerospace Psychologist in the United States Navy. In this role she specialised in effective teamwork and resource management of aircrew and ground support. She earned her wings as a Naval Aviator through the Navy flight surgeon designation program that included land, water and open ocean survival training, aeromedical training, and pilot flight training.

Karen graduated with a BSc in Psychology from the Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and a PhD and MSc from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. A US citizen who grew up in Western North Carolina, Karen has worked internationally throughout her career which has helped her develop significant insights into the culture and diversity of individuals, organisations and management styles. In her spare time, Karen is an avid reader, sometimes musician and novice kayaker. She enjoys exploring the history and traditions of the US southern culture and the culture of the Eastern Band Cherokee Indians, travelling, and acting as Patrons of the Arts.
