Things to look for when certifying a computer

Turn Pop-Up Blockers Off!! #1 reason our programs are not working is because the

pop-up blockers are on.

IntroductionSlide # 8

What if Pop-up Blockers are turned off but I still can’t see the light bulb while trying to certify the computer.

The picture above is what you should see first while certifying the computer. If the light bulb is not showing or the screen just turns blank/white then you aremissing the correct version of JAVA.

Where do I get JAVA

© 2009 EPGY Stanford University

At this point a newer computer with a newer operating system will prompt you to download JAVA. This makes it easy because it takes you through all of the steps.

If the computer does not prompt you then scroll to the bottom of the screen. (The screen where the light bulb should have been). At the bottom of the screen is a link to go to JAVA’s website to download it.

*You may have at acquire the school’s administration password to download anything onto their computer. Quite often the Librarian, media specialist, Principal, or Instructional Facilitator will be in possession of this password.

JAVA is downloaded and now workingJAVA is downloaded and now working

After Java is working and you see the light bulb you will move onto the next page.

This page is titled “Flash” on its Tab.

You should also see a pop-up that says EPGY and hear Dr. Suppes’ voice. This is a sound test. If you see RED ERROR messages then that means we need to Download FLASH. You can follow same directions you used above for JAVA to download FLASH.

Final StepsFinal Steps

Once you get past the first two screens (pop-ups, java, & flash) you are basically home free.

The only other error we occasionally see is a “Cookies Error” on the first tab. This can be fixed most of the time by clearing out the cookies and temporary internet files in the browser.

How can I clear out the cookies and temporary internet files in the

browser? Internet Explorer: Go to “Tools” then in

the drop-down menu go to the bottom and select “Internet Options”.

This will open a box that has you on the general Tab.

From the General tab look for “Browsing History” there is a box to select to delete all Cookies, and Temporary Files
