❙ THE Inverell Chamber of Commerce& Industry is looking forward to hosting

the 18th Inverell Business Awards this

Saturday night.

Planning commenced many months

ago and I thank the Business Awards

Committee led by Peter Caddey for the ef-

fort they have put into the evening.

We could not hold this gala event with-

out our major sponsor BEST

Employment, our category sponsors and

of course our judges who spend theirtime visiting the nominees and finding

out what makes them successful.

I thank all the Judges for giving up

their time and ensuring a smooth

process.

Many judges comment “I didn’t know

that business existed” or “I didn’t know

what they did” so it is rewarding for them

also.

On Saturday night the Sports Council

will also present its award to someone

who has contributed to the betterment of

sport as a participant or administrator.

The most recent winner Bevan French has

gone on to be a star with the Parramatta

Eels rugby league club.

The presentation night will culminate

with the Outstanding Achievement Award

that will give recognition to a business,

organisation or event that has made a

significant contribution to the whole com-

munity.

In place of a guest speaker the

Committee has decided to complete the

evening with a band so everyone can kick

back and celebrate.

On behalf of the Chamber I wish all

nominee businesses and individuals every

success – it really is your night.

And a reminder of our Townwide Sale

planned for June 17 and 18.

The Inverell Chamber of Commerce was incor-

porated in 1984 and since that time has represent-

ed the broad range of locally based businesses in

Inverell from the sole proprietor to national and

multi-national corporations.

Purpose

Whilst the Inverell Region is blessed with a di-

verse farming and agricultural base, the business

community is the major source of employment in

our region and is possibly the most important eco-

nomic driver within our community.

As private enterprise and in particular small

business is the prime generator of economic and

social growth within our town, the Chamber ofCommerce plays a vital role as the voice of Inverell

business. By networking with the NSW State

Chamber of Commerce, The Australian Institute of

Management and the Association of Business

Enterprise Centres, The Inverell Chamber of

Commerce has access to industry information,

business contacts and the collective expertise of

staff and members from a wide range of business

and industry.

Structure

An Executive Committee, comprising of the

President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary,

manages the day to day running of the Inverell

Chamber of Commerce & Industry in align with the

wishes of the Chamber Members.

Promotional activities are organised and man-

aged by the Promotions Committee.

Meetings

General Meetings are held on the third Tuesday

of each month, members are advised seven days in

advance of each meeting.

Town Wide Sale

❙ Scheduled to coincide with stock take

sales the Town Wide Sale is an opportunity

for businesses to organise a special sale day

shared by all businesses in town, thereby

taking advantage of the joint advertising

campaign which bring many buyers to the

Inverell CBD from with in Inverell as well as

shoppers from the outlying region.

Sapphire City Festival Market Day

❙ All businesses are encouraged to partic-ipate by fully embracing the Market Day at-

mosphere, in the way of special offers and

promotions for customers both on the foot-

path and in-store.

Lighting of the Christmas Tree

❙ Inverell locals and visitors are invited

to attend some street side entertainment

including switching on the lights of the

Christmas Tree positioned in the main T

junction of Otho and Byron streets.

Christmas Sale Promotion

❙ Following on from the lighting of the

Christmas tree are various promotions de-

signed to attract Christmas shoppers to

Inverell through sales and competitions.
