Medical Tourism in India
Medical Tourism and Ayurveda
Benefits of Ayurveda over Allopathy
Reasons citing massive investments in Ayurveda treatments
Medical tourism is a growing business in Asia. Foreigners often come to this side of the continent to
get therapies and treatment, which would be extremely expensive in their own countries.
Many of the Ayurvedic therapies are quite effective, however one cannot expect a hundred percent
cure. Still, some of the high demanding therapies are for Arthritis patients, treatment to arrest the
ageing process, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, body slimming, stress management and beauty
treatments. Although good, holistic Ayurvedic treatments can come at a high cost. Many health
conscious individuals are opting for the Ayurvedic experience.
Ayurveda has gained a lot of global attraction. Being one of the main features of tourist attraction
down south, many Ayurvedic centers are on a rise today. India is emerging as a great destination for
medical tourism because it has several pull factors like excellent medical treatment at low cost, easy
accessibility, picturesque locations for excellent holiday, etc.
► Ayurveda aims at finding the root of a disease and then eradicating it completely from the patient
► Prevents human beings from unnecessary sufferings and gives them a long and healthy life.
► Ayurvedic treatment consists of natural herbs and is based on direct sense perception, logical
inference and hearing from realized souls and saints.
► Ayurvedic treatment mainly consists of essence of fruits, vegetables, spices and natural herbs
which helps in curing diseases without having any side effects on the patient's body
► Ayurvedic Treatment has a permanent solution for some diseases like Jaundice, Piles, Vitiligo,
Rheumatoid arthritis.
► Ayurveda is well aware of the system of body and instead of suppressing it; it approaches directly
to the origin and cures the disturbing element.
► Rising incidences of chronic diseases
► Lifestyle related disorders
► Diagnosis and cure of most illnesses
► Reliable and replicable system akin to allopathy
► Shift of healthcare from curative care to preventive care
► Rapid increase in the demand for value added wellness products

Development of AYUSH, Panchkarma, Treatment & Yoga in existing Homestays
Page 59
Homestay
Homestay is the best way to experience the famed Himalayan hospitality of Uttarakhand.
Homestay happen to be economically viable for both tourists and homeowners. For tourists,
homestays offer not only quality, low tariff and offbeat accommodation but also a unique
opportunity to gain invaluable insight into the local culture by staying with a local family.
Homestays enable locals to become micro-entrepreneurs by capitalizing on rooms that already
exist. This allows local homeowners to find income opportunities in rural areas and new
destinations with minimal or no investment. It also plays a central role in nurturing local
communities and in making women financially independent.
Homestays coexist comfortably with hotels as they offer unique value. They are playing an
important role in increasing tourism in lesser-known places by providing accommodation in
areas where it isn’t yet economically viable to build big commercial hotels. During peak seasons
or big city events such as world cups etc. homestays play a pivotal role in compensating for the
room shortage and ensuring that hotels do not increase their rates to unreasonable levels.
Homestay in Uttarakhand has played a vital role in addressing the room shortages for visitors in
rural (and far flung areas) yet potential tourism destinations, simultaneously providing additional
alternate income to the rural communities.
