Investigative Approach

Eg. 1 Year 10. LO: distinguish between fractions with denominators that have only prime factors 2 or 5 (terminating) and other fractions (recurring). *NOT GIVEN TO STUDENTS*

1. Make the decimals in Table A using the integers in Table B

2. Keep a record of the fractions that make the terminating decimals and those that make the recurring decimals.

3. What do you notice about the denominators?

Up to them if they do a list or a table etc

They will come up with a range of suggestions. Some hint cards may be needed to get to the LO. Eg. Write the denominators as a product of prime factors.

Eg. 2 Year 8/9/10. LO: Calculate the surface area of Cube/Cuboid/Cylinder/Cone

1. Draw the net

2. Work out the surface area of the shape

I would provide lots of hint cards for this

How many faces does a cuboid have?

What is the area of a rectangle?

What is the area of a circle?

How do you find the area of sector?r

You have 2 minutes to write down as much as you can about what you see in the picture
