Dear Colleagues, It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 3rd International Symposium on Reading, Mathematics and the Developing Brain arranged by the Göteborg AMBLE Initiative. Göteborg AMBLE (Area for Mind, Brain, Learning and Environment) is a transdisciplinary initiative of researchers from the National Center for Mathematics Education, the Department of Education and Special Education, the Department of Psychology and the Institution for Neuroscience and Physiology at the University of Gothenburg. The main goal of this initiative is to bring together scientists and teachers from education sciences, psychology and neuroscience in order to facilitate research, teaching, public information and policy discussions on early childhood education. The initiative aims at stimulating and coordinating collaborative research projects with a focus on optimizing learning environments and educational practices. Symposium details The symposium will take place at Kjell Härnqvistsalen, Campus Pedagogen (House A) in Gothenburg on May 1920. International and national speakers will present and discuss the current status and new trends in this critical field of science, and the current concepts of children's developing literacy and numeracy will be explored. The topics of the symposium are: Language development Vocabulary Early mathemetics Reading comprehension The AMBLE project Optical imaging of brain activity in children Talks and discussions will be held in English and questions from the audience (also in Swedish) are encouraged. Attendance of the symposium will be free of charge; however, a registration will be required. Coffee will be served but lunch is not included.
