Subject: Invitation to 1st UOG All Pakistan Declamation Contest 2013
Dear Sir/Madam,
University of Gujrat invites your institution to 1st UOG All Pakistan Declamation Contest which will be held
from 8th
to 9th
April 2013. The rules governing the contest are given in Appendix ‘A’, while the List of
Topics, The Schedule of the Contest, Confirmation Form and Registration Policy, Lodging and Pick & Drop
Facilities are attached as appendices ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘E’ respectively.
The competition will comprise two rounds. All speakers will participate in the first round. However, four best
teams and three best speakers from both English and Urdu categories will advance to final round. Since the
speakers selected for the final round will be required to speak on new topics, it is advisable for all the
participants to come fully prepared with two speeches.
A Cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- along with a trophy will be given to the winning team. A cash prize of Rs.
10,000/-, 7,000/- & 5,000/- along with shields will be given to 1st 2
nd & 3
rd position respectively from both
English and Urdu.
University of Gujrat will provide boarding and lodging facilities for teams outside Gujrat/Gujranwala. You
are, therefore, requested to confirm your participation latest by 28th of March, 2013. No confirmation will be
entertained after the deadline is over.

Appendix ‘A’
Rules and Regulations
1. Each participating institution is to be represented by a team comprising two speakers only,
one to speak in Urdu and the other in English. One of the speakers is to speak on a serious
topic and the other on a humorous one.
2. A speaker may agree or disagree with the topic.
3. The contest will be spread over two rounds. In the initial round, all teams must participate.
Four best teams will be selected for the final round. In addition to them, three best individual
speakers from both English and Urdu categories will also qualify for the final round. The
number of the teams or individual speakers can be increased if the judges want to.
4. Those selected for the final round will have to deliver new speeches and will not be allowed
to repeat their speeches from the initial round.
5. A speaker will speak for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 minutes in both initial and
final rounds. Marks will be deducted for failing to observe the stipulated time limit.
6. A speaker making offensive remarks about any important personage or passing
controversial religious, political or sectarian remarks shall be immediately disqualified.
Using words/sentences with any indecent connotation and passing derogatory remarks
against the chair will lead to instant disqualification of the speaker. In such an event, the
speaker may be asked to step down from the podium during the speech.
7. Paper reading is not allowed and those who do so will be penalized.
8. The team that gains the maximum aggregate points will get the team trophy. The three best
speakers, from both English and Urdu, will also be awarded prizes. A consolation prize may
also be provided. Speakers from UOG participating in the contest will not be competing for
the prizes.
9. The decision of the judges will be final.
10. Each team may or may not be accompanied with a chaperon/teacher. However it will be
compulsory for the participants to bring their Computerized National Identity Card and their
student I.D cards of the respective institution. It is also recommended that the teams bring a
nomination letter from university/college.

The University of Gujrat Debating Society is committed to maintain the high level of debates. With
this aim in mind, it has decided upon:

Lodging
Outstation teams will be provided with lodging at the University of Gujrat on campus hostels. UOG
Debating Society will try its best to accommodate all outstation teams in the best possible manner.
Outstation teams are requested to send the details with regard to number and gender in their
confirmation e-mails so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Transport
University of Gujrat Debating Society will provide Pick & Drop Facility from Gujrat Lorry Adda,
Railway Station & Daewoo Terminal. Transport routes are mentioned in the schedule attached
herewith.
