PANEL DICUSSION: CREATING LIVABLE & LOVABLE CITIES Around the world from Melaka to Taipei and Paris to Rio de Janeiro older neighbourhoods have been injected with new life though art, heritage and colour. Architects and developers around the world see the potential of historic buildings in place making. Using case studies from the Yangon Heritage Works Design Workshop and lessons learned from the Yangon Street Art Heritage Works as well as Akzo Nobel’s Human Cities Initiative panelists will explore how these elements play a role in creating livable and lovable cities and how this could be applied to Yangon. PANEL DICUSSION: TOOLS & INSTRUMENTS TO REVITALISE OLD YANGON The Heritage Works study proposes a number of tools and instruments to catalyse respectful urban regeneration in Yangon. The panel discussion provides an opportunity to reflect on feasibility in local context, impact and for Yangon citizens and roles & responsibilities of the various stakeholders involved. The panel discussion will comprise of two tracks:

RESULTS HERITAGE WORKS DESIGN WORKSHOP 100 young Burmese architects - with the help of 26 renowned local and international architects - have designed possible solutions for upgrading of heritage buildings and the public realm, using selected buildings and sites in the downtown area as case studies. OLD BUILDINGS AND THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THEM In 2012 Yangon Film School students made four short documentary films under the working title 'Old buildings and the people who live in them’:
Insein Rhythm - featuring the workers and passengers at Insein Railway Station, cut to the rhythm of the railway
My Grandfather's House - featuring a beautiful teak house and a historic writers' group
No. 32 Pansodan Street - about the Lokanat Gallery building and the people who have made it their home
The Old Photographer - about an old Indian photographer and his historic studio
