Hyper-connected Society

IoT European Large-Scale Pilots Programme

Co-funded by Horizon 2020 programme

of the European Union

The IoT European Large-Scale PilotsProgramme includes the innovation consortiathat are collaborating to foster thedeployment of IoT solutions in Europethrough integration of advanced IoTtechnologies across the value chain, demonstration of multiple IoT applications atscale and in a usage context, and as close aspossible to operational conditions.

Co-funded by Horizon 2020 programme

of the European Union

The programme projects are targeted, goal driven initiatives that propose IoTapproaches to specific real-life industrial/societal challenges. They areautonomous entities that involve stakeholders from supply side to demandside, and contain all the technological and innovation elements, the tasksrelated to the use, application and deployment as well as the development, testing and integration activities.

Integration, further research and development where needed ofthe most advanced technologies across the value chain(components, devices, networks, middleware, service platforms, application functions).

Operation at large scale to respond to real needs of end-users(public authorities, citizens, businesses), based on underlyingopen technologies and architectures that may be reused acrossmultiple use cases and enable interoperability

Validation of user acceptability by addressing, in particular, issuesof trust, attention, security and privacy through pre-definedprivacy and security impact assessments, liability, coverage ofuser needs in the specific real-life scenarios of the pilot

Validation of the related business models to guarantee thesustainability of the approach beyond the project and theprovision of solutions based on open standards and platforms.

ACTIVATING INNOVATIVE IoT SMART LIVINGENVIRONMENTS FOR AGEING WELL - is building thefirst European interoperable and open IoT ecosystemenabling the deployment, at large scale, of a widerange of Active and Healthy Ageing IoT basedsolutions and services. To achieve this, ACTIVAGE isintegrating thousands of devices to collect andanalyse older adults’ environmental and lifestyleinformation, identify their needs, and providecustomized solutions, ensuring users’ data privacy andsecurity.

AUTOMATED DRIVING PROGRESSED BY INTERNET OFTHINGS – is developing an IoT connected vehicleplatform and IoT architecture based on the existingand forthcoming standards, as well as open sourceand vendor solutions. The IoT ecosystemaccommodates vehicles, road infrastructure andconnected IoT objects, with particular attention tosafety critical aspects of automated driving. Theproject develops a range of services combiningautonomous driving and IoT, such as car sharing, autonomous valet parking, and better digital maps forautonomous vehicles.

INTERNET OF FOOD AND FARM 2020 - is dedicated toaccelerating the uptake of IoT technologies in theEuropean farming and food chains and ultimatelystrengthening their competitiveness andsustainability. How? By demonstrating, together withend-users, the use of IoT in different use-cases spreadthroughout Europe, and focusing on 5 areas: dairy, meat, arable crops, fruits and vegetables. IoF2020 isdesigned to generate maximum impact right from theoutset and in the long-run, bringing closer togetherand integrating the supply and demand sides of IoTtechnologies in the agri-food sector.

MANAGEMENT OF NETWORKED IoT WEARABLES –VERY LARGE-SCALE DEMONSTRATION OF CULTURALAND SOCIETAL APPLICATIONS - is a large-scaledemonstration of how cities can use existing and newIoT solutions to meet sound, noise and securitychallenges at big open-air cultural and sports events, which attract and affect many people. Innovationsinclude the establishment of sound zones at outdoorconcerts for noise mitigation as well as securitymeasures improving crowd information andmanagement.

DELIVERING AN IoT-ENABLED DIGITAL SINGLEMARKET FOR EUROPE AND BEYOND - brings togetherpartners with worldwide outreach. The projectrepresents the first attempt to deliver a digital singlemarket for IoT-enabled urban services in Europe andbeyond. With an already emerging foundation, basedon OASC Minimal Interoperability Mechanism (MIMs),SynchroniCity will establish a reference architecturemodel for the envisioned IoT-enabled city marketplace with identified interoperability points andinterfaces and data models for different verticals.
