    THE SERIES - - This is the 56th game in the series and Michiganleads 40-11-4. The two schools have split the last six meengswith Iowa winning last years contest (30-28) in Iowa City.     1-1) Saturday for the Wolverine homecoming game. Game time is 2:36 p.m. CT

    in Michigan Stadium (109,901). The game is sold out.

    ON THE TUBEABC (HD) will televise the contest to a regional audience. Fans not in the ABC

    regional footprint can view the game on ESPN (HD). Ron Franklin and Ed Cun-ningham will call the action.

    HAWKEYES EARN WEEKLY HONORSSeveral Iowa players have earned weekly honors during the first five weeks of

    the season: Senior DE Adrian Clayborn was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Weekfollowing Iowas 24-3 win over Penn State Oct. 2. Clayborn collected 10 tacklesin the win, including a quarterback sack for minus 15 yards and three tacklesfor loss. Iowa held Penn State to 54 net rushing yards and just three points.

    The Big Ten honor is the third for Clayborn. He earned the recognition forspecial teams in Iowas 2009 win at Penn State and he was defensive Player ofthe Week in Iowas 2009 win at Michigan State. Clayborn earned honorablemention recognition for his position from the College Football PerformanceAwards for his play against Penn State as well.

    Junior DL Mike Daniels was named Big Ten Conference co-defensive Playerof the Week for his play in Iowas 45-0 win over Ball State. Daniels recordedcareer bests in tackles and tackles for loss in Iowas shutout victory over Ball

    State. Daniels had four solo tackles and two assists, including four tackles forloss (-20) and one QB sack (-7). The Hawkeye defense held Ball State to jus112 yards total offense (56 rushing, 56 passing) as nine of 12 Ball State possessions were five plays or less. The Big Ten Player of the Week honor is the firsfor Daniels, who was also named national defensive Performer of the Week bythe College Football Performance Awards.

    Senior RB Paki OMeara was named Big Ten Conference special teams Player ofthe Week for his play in Iowas 37-7 win over Eastern Illinois. OMeara blockedan Eastern Illinois punt in the first period and returned the block for a 42-yardtouchdown. His score gave Iowa a 21-0 advantage. He also had four rushingattempts for 34 yards in the second half in earning his first Big Ten Player ofthe Week honor.

    Weekly Football Press ConferenceIowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz holds his weekly press

    conferences every Tuesday throughout the season.

    The press conferences are held in the auditorium of

    the Hayden Fry Football Complex. Coach Ferentz ad-

    dresses the media at 12:30 p.m. and requested players

    will be available following the press conference. In case

    of poor weather, player interviews will be conducted

    inside the bubble.

    Media need to submit their Tuesday player interview

    requests to Phil Haddy, via e-mail, by 10:30 a.m. CT

    each Sunday. True freshmen are not available for

    interviews.

    Media can access video highlights of Ferentzs weekly

    press conference, plus player clips and highlights via

    satellite. The time is from 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. (CT). The

    satellite feed is available on AMC 3, Transponder 3,C-Band Analog.

    Junior DB Shaun Prater earned honorable mention recognition from the CollegeFootball Performance Award for his defensive backfield play in Iowas win overPenn State. Prater collected Iowas only turnover vs. Penn State, returning hisinterception in the closing minutes 33 yards for his first career touchdown. Healso collected four tackles and the interception is the second of his career againsPenn State.

    Senior QB Ricky Stanzi earned honorable mention recognition from the College

    Football Performance Award for his play in Iowas 45-0 win over Ball State.Stanzi completed 19-25 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns, with nointerceptions.

    Sophomore RB Adam Robinson earned honorable mention recognition from theCollege Football Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over IowaState. Robinson rushed for a career-best 156 yards on 14 carries and scoredon a 39-yard run. Robinson also had a 75-yard run to set up another Hawkeyetouchdown and surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards.

    Senior TE Allen Reisner earned honorable mention recognition from the CollegeFootball Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over Iowa StateReisner had three receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. His two-yard scor-ing reception gave Iowa a 21-0 advantage in the second period and his 55-yardcatch, the longest of his career, led to Iowas final score.

    Freshman PK Mike Meyer earned honorable mention recognition from theCollege Football Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over IowaState. A true freshman walk-on, Meyer has handled Iowas kickoff duties alseason games. Against Iowa State, he averaged 68.3 yards on six kicks, withthree touchbacks.

    Iowa had eight players named Big Ten Players of the Week in 2009 (four ondefense, one offense and three special team winners).

    TOUGH AGAINST THE RUNNot only does the Iowa defense rank second in the nation in rushing yards allowed

    (63.2), the Hawkeyes are the only Division I team that has not allowed a rushingtouchdown in 2010. Dating back to the third period of the 2010 Orange Bowl winover Georgia Tech, Iowa has not allowed a rushing touchdown in 21 consecutive

    quarters. Three teams, Colorado, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, have allowed jusone rushing touchdown.

    Last season, Iowa entered the Michigan game with a streak of 33 straight quarterswithout allowing a rushing touchdown. The Wolverines ended that streak witha rushing touchdown in the second period and added two rushing touchdowns inthe second half.

    INJURY SETBACKSIowa sophomore running back Jewel Hampton and junior linebacker Bruce Davis

    suffered season-ending knee injuries during Iowas 34-27 loss at Arizona. Bothhave had surgery to repair the damage. In addition, LB Jeff Tarpinian did not starvs. Penn State and was limited to just a few plays on defense.

    Hampton rushed 91 times for 463 yards and seven touchdowns as a freshman in

    MICHIGAN COACH RICH RODRIGUEZRich Rodriguez is in his third season as Michigans head coach. He has posted

    a 13-17 record with the Wolverines. He became Michigans 18th head coach afterserving as the head coach at West Virginia for seven seasons (2001-07). Rodriguezposted a 60-26 mark at West Virginia, taking his team to six straight bowl gamesand winning four Big East titles. He is in his 10th season as a Division I coachwith a 73-42 mark.

    Rodriquez was the head coach at Glenville State for seven seasons (1990-96)after beginning his head coaching career at Salem (1988). In 1989, he served asa volunteer coach at West Virginia.     Michigan took an early 7-0 lead after return-ing an interception for a touchdown on thesecond play of the game. Iowa came back witha touchdown drive to tie the game on its next

    possession, with Stanzi hitting TE Tony Moeakifor the 34-yard score. A pass interception by LBJeremiha Hunter led to an Iowa field goal beforeMichigan answered with a short rushing touch-down and a 14-10 lead at the end of one period.A 41-yard field goal by Daniel Murray allowedIowa to cut the margin to 14-13. A one-yardrun by RB Brandon Wegher gave Iowa a 20-14advantage late in the second period.

    Murray added a 40-yard field goal in the third period before Brandon Minorscored his second rushing touchdown to leave Iowa leading 23-21 after threeperiods. Iowas defense held Michigan inside its own five-yard line early in thefourth quarter and took over at the 42. Stanzi connected with Moeaki for a second

    scoring strike to stretch the advantage to 30-21. Michigansfi

    nal points came ona three-yard run with 3:16 to play.Michigans attempt at an onside kick went out of bounds, but Iowa was unable

    Along with the two interceptions, Iowa had fumble recoveries by Hunter, DEAdrian Clayborn and DB William Lowe. Hunter and LB Pat Angerer each recorded12 tackles to lead the Iowa defense.

    Stanzi ended the contest with 284 passing yards, completing 20-38 attempts, withone interception. Moeaki had six receptions for 105 yards and was named Big TenOffensive Player of the Week.

    IOWA, MICHIGAN NOTES Iowa is 5-3 when visiting for Michigans homecoming

    game, but has won just six of 33 games overall in AnnArbor. Iowas last appearance at Michigans homecomingcame in 2002 when the Hawkeyes won 34-9. Iowa posteda perfect 8-0 Big Ten mark that season while earning ashare of the Big Ten title.

    Saturdays game will mark the sixth straight Iowa-Michigan game that will be televised by ABC.

Iowa has played insix January bowl games and has four January bowl victories(2004 Outback Bowl, 2005 Capital One Bowl, 2009 OutbackBowl and 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl). Iowa has posted a 74-32(.698) overall mark and a 43-22 (.662) Big Ten record the lastnine plus seasons.     Ferentz joined the Iowa staff after serving as assistant headcoach and offensive line coach of the NFLs Baltimore Ravens.He was part of the Baltimore (Cleveland Browns prior to themove) staff for six years.

    Ferentz was named head coach of the Maine Bears in 1990and held that position for three years. Ferentz was a memberof Hayden Frys Iowa staff for nine years as offensive linecoach (1981-89). He coordinated Iowas running game duringhis first coaching stint with the Hawkeyes. Iowa appeared ineight bowl games during the time Ferentz was an Iowa assis-tant. A pair of Rose Bowls (1982 & 1986), two Holiday Bowlappearances (1986 & 1987) and a pair of Peach Bowl visits(1982 & 1988), along with appearances in the Gator (1983)and Freedom bowls (1984) highlighted his previous Iowa stay.Iowas record in those nine years was 73-33-4.

    Ferentz was born in Royal Oak, MI, and attended high schoolin Pittsburgh, PA. Kirk earned his bachelors degree in EnglishEducation from the University of Connecticut in 1978, wherehe was a football captain. Kirk received the DistinguishedAlumnus Award from the Neag School of Education at theUniversity of Connecticut in May, 2009.     IOWA DEFEATS PENN STATEIowa used a solid defensive performance and a fast start on offense to take a

    24-3 Homecoming win over Penn State Oct. 2 in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa has wonthree straight over the Nittany Lions and eight of the last nine meetings to take a12-11 series advantage.

    Iowa drove 77 yards in 10 plays on its first possession and led 3-0 following a20-yard Mike Meyer field goal. After Penn State failed to gain a first down on itfirst two possessions, Iowa struck again for a 10-0 advantage. QB Ricky Stanzcompleted the scoring drive with a nine-yard scoring strike to Derrell JohnsonKoulianos.

    Iowas defense was at its best in the first pe-riod, allowing Penn State no first downs andjust one yard total offense. Iowa increased itsadvantage late in the second period on a one-yard sneak by Stanzi. The 68-yard drive washighlighted by two 18-yard receptions by Mar-vin McNutt, Jr. and an 11-yard run by RB AdamRobinson that put the ball at the one.

    Penn State scored its only points of the firsthalf on a 25-yard field goal by Collin Wagneron the final play of the half. The Nittany Lions

    threatened on their first drive of the third period,reaching a first and goal at the Iowa 10. But QB Rob Bolden was stopped incheshort of a touchdown on fourth down and Iowa held Penn State out of scoringrange the rest of the night.

    The Hawkeyes were not in good field position for the majority of the secondhalf, but twice collected key first downs after gaining possession inside their own10-yard line and punter Ryan Donahue averaged 40.3 yards on seven punts.

    Iowas final points came on a 33-yard interception return by junior DB ShaunPrater.

    The Iowa defense did not allow a touchdown for the second straight week, holdingPenn State to 54 net rushing yards. The Hawkeyes collected a pair of sacks andrecorded eight tackles for loss.     Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk SeriesThe Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series is in its seventh season in2010-11. The series is tied 3-3 in the in-state competi-tion against Iowa State that began in 2004-05. IowaState captured the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series a year agoby a 16-11 margin.

    Iowa holds a 5-2 advantage to date, defeating ISUin football and womens soccer and falling to ISUin volleyball.

    Last season, Iowa captured victories in football,womens soccer, wrestling, womens gymnastics andwomens tennis. The Cyclones recorded wins in vol-leyball, mens and womens cross country, mens andwomens basketball, womens swimming and diving,womens gymnastics and softball.

    Iowa captured the inaugural Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series(13-8) in 2004-05 and won again in 2006-07 (13-8)and 2008-09 (21-4). Iowa State won the competitionin 2005-06 (13-8) and 2007-08 (18-9) and 2009-10(16-11).

    The 12-event series awards two points (except foot-ball, which is worth three) to the winning school ineach head-to-head match-up between the two insti-tutions. Additionally, two points are awarded to aninstitution if the graduation rate of its student-athletesis greater than the national average as reported eachfall by the NCAA.

    A commemorative Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series Cup,

    which stands 31 inches tall and weighs 19 pounds, isdisplayed on the winning teams campus for an entireyear after a victory. Replica cups are also presentedas traveling trophies for individual victorious teamsin the head-to-head competition.

    Academic Opportunities

    Two points for an institution if the student-athletegraduation rate for all student-athletes is greater thanthe national average for all student-athletes, accord-ing to the annual graduation rate report issued eachSeptember/October by the NCAA.

    DB Shaun Prater intercepted his fourth career pass late in the fourth quarter andreturned the theft 33 yards for a touchdown. It marked the second time thiseason an Iowa defender returned an interception for a touchdown (BroderickBinns, 20-yard touchdown at Arizona on Sept. 18). Iowa collected at least oneturnover in 11-of-13 games last season, with no turnovers vs. Michigan Stateand Ohio State. The Hawkeye defense has collected at least one takeaway in48 of its last 54 games, dating back to 2006.

    Iowa was 3-3 in the red zone, collecting a rushing touchdown, a passing scoreand a field goal. Iowa has scored on 81 of the last 90 red zone possessions (55TDs and 26 FGs), dating back to the Michigan State game in 2008. Iowa is62-71 combined inside the red zone its last 21 games.

    Iowa held its first two opponents to seven points and Ball State did not scoreArizona is the only Iowa opponent to score in the first period, and Iowa has heldtwo opponents to no points in the first half.

    Iowa opponents are 6-12 in the red zone, with four passing touchdowns andtwo field goals. Penn State failed to score on fourth down from the one on itsfirst possession of the third quarter, leaving Iowa opponents just 1-5 on fourthdown this season. The Nittany Lions marched to the Iowa 12 yard-line beforethe clock expired to end the game.

    True freshman LB James Morris saw his most extensive action of the season ondefense. Morris was credited with seven tackles and one pass break-up.

    MSU STOPS MICHIGANMichigan State came up with three pass interceptions on defense and used a

    solid rushing game in taking a 34-17 win at Michigan Saturday. Michigan led 3-0after one period before the Spartans scored 17 points in the second quarter to takea 17-10 advantage at the break. Michigan State then used long touchdown driveson its first two possessions of the third period to increase the advantage to 34-10before Michigan added a touchdown early in the fourth period.

    Michigan gained 162 rushing yards and 215 passing yards, but had two scoringchances stopped by interceptions. Quarterback Denard Robinson rushed for 86yards and completed 17-29 passes to lead the Michigan offense. He had a 12-yardtouchdown pass in the second period and a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth

    period. Eight Wolverines had at least one reception, with Roy Roundtree leadingthe way with 48 yards on six catches.

    The Michigan defense was led by J.T. Floyd, who had 10 solo tackles among hisgame-high 13 stops. Jonan Mouton and Obi Ezeh each added nine tackles.

    TOP HAWKEYE PERFORMERS Senior TE Allen Reisner has 17 receptions for 214 yards and a touchdown. Reis-

    ner had four receptions in the opening game, three catches (66 yards) in the winover Iowa State and five catches for 53 yards against Ball State. He added threereceptions for 29 yards vs. Penn State. Reisner had five receptions in the firsperiod against Ball State, surpassing his previous career high (four vs. EasternIllinois, 9/4/10). His career high in yards is 66 yards vs. Iowa State earlier thi

    season. Last season, Reisner had 14 catches for 143 yards in 13 games. Senior punter Ryan Donahue is averaging 44.4 yards on 22 punts through fivegames to rank third in the Big Ten and 18th in the nation. He has a long of 61yards, 11 of his punts have been downed inside the 20 and opponents are aver-aging just 4.5 yards on 12 returns.

    Senior LB Jeff Tarpinian has 32 stops in four games, including 12 at Arizonaand 11 in the win over Iowa State. Tarpinian missed Iowas opening game dueto injury before starting for the first time against Iowa State. He added a teambest nine tackles in the win over Ball State before playing just a few plays inthe win over Penn State due to injury.

    Senior DT Karl Klug has 5.5 tackles for loss and one QB sack. Klug has registered 21 tackles and two quarterback hurries through five games.

    Junior DE Broderick Binns had his first career interception in the loss at Arizona

    He returned the theft 20 yards for a touchdown that tied the score at 27-27 inthe fourth period. Binns has recorded 15 tackles in four games after missingIowas season-opening win.

    True freshman PK Mike Meyer scored the first point of his career with a PATin the first period against Ball State. It was his first PAT attempt after he hadhandled just KO duties in Iowasfirst three games. Meyer was 6-6 on PAT kicksand added a 25-yard field goal, while also missing a 37-yard field goal from theleft hash mark on his first career attempt in the second period. He made his onlyfield goal attempt and two PAT kicks in the win over Penn State and is third inthe team in scoring with 15 points.

    Sophomore DB Micah Hyde had the first interception of his career in the winover Ball State. He also forced a fumble later in the second period, with therecovery made by Iowa LB Jeremiha Hunter. The turnover led to Iowas third

    touchdown of the first half. Hyde ended the day with two solo tackles, as well Junior DB Shaun Prater had his second interception of the season in the win over

    Penn State, returning the theft 33 yards for Iowasfinal touchdown. Prater alsohas a recovered fumble and has collected 16 tackles. He also had an interceptionin Iowas win at Penn State in 2009. Prater is tied for first in the Big Ten withhis two interceptions.

    IOWA GETS DEFENSIVE POINTSIowas defense has recorded at least one pass interception return for a touchdown

    in each of the last three seasons and in six of the last seven years. DE BroderickBinns had a 20-yard touchdown return in the fourth quarter of the loss at ArizonaDB Shaun Prater had a 33-yard return for a touchdown in the most recent winover Penn State.

    Last season, safety Tyler Sash had an 86-yard return for a touchdown in a homewin over Indiana. In 2008, DB Amari Spievey returned an interception 57 yardsfor a touchdown in a win at Minnesota.

    IOWA FEATURES RETURN GAMEThrough five games, Iowa is second in the Big Ten Conference in punt returns

    (14.3) and fourth in kickoff returns (23.8). Iowa had no kick or punt returns in thewin over Penn State.

The lettermen breakdown includes 15 three-yearlettermen, 12 two-year lettermen and 19 one-year lettermen.

    The total roster has 121 players, and includes 26 seniors,21 juniors, 25 sophomores, 16 redshirt freshmen and 33 truefreshmen. The first game depth chart included 19 seniors,

    14 juniors, 12 sophomores, five redshirt freshmen and twotrue freshmen.

    Just two Division I programs, Hawaii (31) and Louisville(27), have more returning seniors than Iowa, while Texas-ElPaso also returns 26 seniors and Ohio State returns 25.

    Bowl. The road winning streak was the longest for Iowasince the Hawkeyes won all five of their road games during the 2002 regular season. That streak was six straighgames away from home, including the 2001 Alamo BowlIowas five road opponents last season were a combined26-9 (.743) at home. Outside of the game against Iowathose five teams were 25-5 (.833) at home.

    Iowas 2009 win at No. 4/5 ranked Penn State markedIowas first road win over a team ranked in the top fivesince 1990. That season the Hawkeyes scored a 54-28 winat fifth-ranked Illinois. Iowa concluded the 2009 seasonwith a neutral site win over ninth-ranked Georgia Tech inthe Orange Bowl.

    For the second straight year, Iowa will face two teams thahave former Hawkeye players as their head coach. BreBielema (1989-92) is the head coach at Wisconsin andMike Stoops (1981, 1983-84) is the head coach at ArizonaIowa lost at Arizona 34-27 Sept. 18 and hosts WisconsinOct. 16. Both Stoops and Bielema led their teams to bowgames in 2009.

    Iowa, in 2009, won four games by three points or less forthe first time ever in a single season. Iowa was 4-1 in 2009when trailing after three periods and 1-1 when tied afterthree quarters. Iowa blocked twofield goal attempts in thefinal seconds of a win over Northern Iowa and scored onthe final play in a win at Michigan State. The Hawkeyeslost at Ohio State in overtime.

    HAWKEYES RANK HIGH IN GRADUATION RATES

    The Iowa Hawkeyes were among the nations leaders in academic

    success for college football teams that competed in bowl games fol-

    lowing the 2008 season.

    Iowa ranked 16th in graduation rate for its football student-athletes,according to data collected by the NCAA among the 68 college foot-

    ball teams that participated in the 34 college football bowl games.

    Iowas graduation rate of 75% ranked third among teams that ap-

    peared in the 2008 final top 25 rankings.

    A year ago, Iowas GSR of 74% ranked second among the 10

    teans that competed in 2010 BCS bowl games.

    The graduation rate for Iowas 2009 nationally ranked football

    program was 67 percent for the second consecutive year. The

    national average was 55 percent.

    THREE HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS

    In 2008, three Iowa players were named to the ESPN The Magazine/

    CoSIDA District Seven first all-academic team.

    Under Kirk Ferentz in the last 11 years, 15 Hawkeye players havecombined to earn academic all-America honors on 28 occasions.

    Four players, DL Aaron Kampman, OL Andy Lightfoot, LB Mike

    Klinkenborg and DB Adam Shada, were three-time honorees. Cur-

    rent senior Julian Vandervelde earned regional honors in each of the

    past two seasons.

    Iowa, in 2006, was the only Division I program in the nation to

    have three players earn first team academic all-America recognition.

    In addition, Iowa players have been honored 130 times over the past

    10 seasons with academic all-Big Ten recognition.
