Please join IowaBio on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the annual Welcome Back Legislative Reception. This free event will take place in the lower-level Atrium of the State Historical Building in Des Moines from 5:00-7:00pm. The reception takes place at the start of the 2017 legislative session and is a great opportunity to make new connections and meet with elected officials. This event is co-hosted by IowaBio, the Iowa Communications Alliance, Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of America, the Iowa Association of Electronic Cooperatives and the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives. Iowa STEM Youth Advisory Board:
Opportunity for Your Children! (Return to Index)
The Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council identified youth perspective as a priority moving forward. Therefore, an Iowa STEM Youth Advisory Board is being formed. Who is Eligible? Iowa youth from 5th Grade to College Seniors are invited to apply for this highly-selective and important Board. What does the Board do? The two functions of the Board are to:
1. Provide youth perspective to the STEM Council for guiding policy and programs; 2. Communicate to peers and communities the programs and policies of the STEM Council.
A 15-member Board will be assembled that represents the diversity of Iowa. Most meetings will be conducted via videoconferencing, with one or two in-person gatherings per year. Terms will be two years each with the opportunity for renewal. The Board will be chaired by Kwizera Imani, an Aerospace Engineering undergraduate at Iowa State University and member of the STEM Council. What you need for the application?
1. If you are under 18 years old, a parent/guardian permission form can be downloaded here. If you are over 18 years old, a media waiver request form can be downloaded here. Please have one or the other signed, scan it and upload to the bottom of the application in PDF form before submitting.
2. A letter of reference from an unrelated acquaintance familiar with your STEM experiences uploaded below in PDF form.
Applications for the Board will be accepted until Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 5:00 P.M. CST.
