EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This document provides a description of the PINTA dissemination activities.
It describes all disseminations activities done within PINTA ( in coherence with the JU S2R
communication policy and the PINTA Grant Agreement) between September 2016 and December
2018. It covers the following items :
Internal to JU S2R communication
o The Kick off meeting of the project has been done in Paris area on September 2016
o The Project Identity, including logo and templates for communication has been
proposed in the first months of the project.
External communication
o Public information on Web site hosted by JU S2R web site. Several public
informations have been given like the project structure, the partners, the public
results with three reports available for download, and some project news
o Dissemination via publications, participation in conferences, workshops and
exhibitions. PINTA experts have participated to two major events: Transport
Research Arena 2018 and Innotrans 2018.
o Publications: a brochure and a newsletter have been produced.
o Articles on specialized magazines and scientific papers : a paper on acoustic noise
is accepted for publication and is expected to be published end of November or
December 2018
o Final Conference done in Rabat (Morocco) on 12/12/ 2018 combining a more
general meeting between European Railways R&D entities, S2R and PINTA final
results presentations.
All of these dissemination actions have been realized and the pertinent people to aware of the
project progress and results have been properly informed.

1. INTRODUCTION
PINTA is a 28 months project, funded by the S2R JU via the Horizon 2020 programme of the
European Commission. This project has been developed as Phase 1 of the work which will be
developed within the Technical Demonstrators Traction (TD1.1) and Brakes (TD1.5) during the
implementation of Shift2Rail.
The ultimate goals of TD Traction and TD Brakes are, from one side to bring to the market a new
generation of traction drive equipment and, on the other side, to develop safe brake systems based
on adhesion management with higher braking performance, lower life cycle cost and noise levels.
The dissemination of the project’s research activities and results are fundamental components of
the PINTA project. The dissemination objectives of this project are:
to ensure that the outputs of the project are delivered in a form which makes them available
for use by the Innovation Programme 1 within Shift2Rail;
to ensure that all important actors in the European railway sector are informed about
PINTA;
to facilitate acceptance of the project outcomes by the standards and regulatory bodies as
well as by the main actors of the EU rail sector. That’s why a specific communication has
been implemented with the JU S2R CCA Standardisation leader.
to disseminate, engage and promote the project and its research activities to relevant
audiences;
This document presents the dissemination and communication done.
2. INTERNAL TO JU S2R COMMUNICATION
2.1 THE KICK OFF MEETING
It has been done in Paris area on September 2016 with a limited audience to the direct partners of
the project and the JU S2R representative. The main reason to have not invited more people was
simply that Shif2Rail was at the very beginning at that time and a quick start up of the project was
not compatible with a large audience meeting organization.
2.2 PROJECT IDENTITY
The project identity has been set at the beginning of the project including templates for
presentations and reports, as well as the PINTA logo. The project identity helped dissemination
activities and has ensured a consistent communication of the project concept, objectives and
results internally to the JU S2R but also externaly.

2.3 INTERACTION WITH SHIFT2RAIL IP1 AND CROSS-CUTTING
ACTIVITIES
PINTA is setting the foundations for many of the technologies that will be continued within
Shift2Rail’s TD1.1 & TD1.5. PINTA shares information with other related projects funded within
Shift2Rail and has invited all suitable CCA leaders at PINTA TMT meetings to provide mutual
informations on our respective projects.
Therefore, the dissemination of the project’s results to IP1 of Shift2Rail is ensured as the interface
between the TD1.1, TD1.5 and IP1 is already organised via the IP1 Steering Committee where
both TD1.1 and TD1.5 leaders are members. General progress information is also given to all
other IP1 TD leaders within IP1 SC.
3. EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION
As described in the PINTA Grant Agreement, the wider audience has been targeted for PINTA
communications and we can say that all needed people have been informed about PINTA activities
and results via the following external communication actions.

3.1 PUBLIC INFORMATION ON WEB SITE
The web information of PINTA are josted by JU S2R web site. Several public
informations have been given like the project structure, the partners, the public results
with three reports available for download, and some project news.
3.2 DISSEMINATIONS & PUBLICATIONS
PINTA experts have participated to different conferences exhibitions including Transport Research
Arena 2018 where two papers have been presented from Alstom.
One on noise “Reducing noise pollution of urban areas: new advances for railway vehicles” , the
other one on the general approach of using Silicon Carbide for Regional trains traction system
“Innovative Railway Traction System”. This last paper has been published on the CERN Web site

At Innotrans 2018. Several WP leaders presented their progress on WP3 ( acoustic and EMI
noise), WP4 (reliability, availability, smart maintenance) , WP5 (Virtual validation and certification),

WP7 (Adhesion detection and low adhesion management). FTI presented a film on low adhesion
work and test bench, Alstom presented a film on SiC Traction for Regional application and KPIs
progress.

A second newsletter will be released at the end of the project, expected on December 2018. The
newsletters will provide up-to-date information on the status and achievements of the project. The
newsletters will be circulated via e-mailing lists and in a printed version that complements the
project brochure. In order to ensure that the widest audience possible is reached, each partner will
use its own mailing list. The newsletter will also be uploaded on the project webpage and the
printed copy will be distributed at any judged relevant JU S2R events and workshops.
After TRA2018, a web journal ask WP3 leader to prepare a publication. The paper is approved and
should be published on November or December 2018.
3.3 FINAL CONFERENCE
The Final conference is scheduled in Rabat (Morocco) on 12/12/ 2018. It combines a general
meeting between European Railways R&D entities, S2R and PINTA final results presentations. A
wide list of guests has been built with the contribution and validation of PINTA WP leaders, Unife,
JU S2R. The guests are the suitable people to be informed of S2R and PINTA specific progress
and includes PINTA TMT and SC members, railway industrials, operators, JU S2R governance
people (head of JU, IP1 SC members, program officer, some JU S2R Governing Board members,
Scientific Committee representatives, CCAs leaders ) , Alstom and SNCF France and Morocco
executives, Moroccan Operator ONCF, academic research.

3.4 STANDARD AND REGULATORY BODIES
PINTA works on standardisation within the Workpackage 6. Therefore, a liaison between the
standardisation technical committees and the project is envisaged directly or via the
Standardisation Working Area 3.2 of S2R Cross Cutting Activities. We have invited the
standardisation CCA leader to the final conference of the project to ensure the uptake of the
results.
4. CONCLUSIONS
The PINTA project has realised the dissemination activities as described in the Grant Agreement
and is still available for other future communication event the JU S2R could organise. PINTA2,
following PINTA project has indeed a dedicated communication WP where such new promotion
actions could take place.
