iPhoto iPhoto is a program that is used to store & organize digital pictures. It can also be used to create slideshows, books, and photo webpages.
Intro: The iPhoto Interface When you open iPhoto, a screen similar to the one below will appear. The following section will explain what each part of the interface does.

The Zoom allows you to increase or decrease the size of the photos in the photo viewing area.
Step 1: How to Import a Picture (from a file & a digital camera)In order to use the features of iPhoto, you will need to import your pictures. You can do this by importing pictures from a file on your computer or from your digital camera. Follow the directions below:
Importing a Picture from a File
Go to File > Import to Library...
A window will open. Navigate to the picture you would like to import
Click Import
The picture will show up in your library under the Photos heading and the Events heading
Importing a Picture from a Camera
Connect your digital camera to your computer with a USB cable
(refer to your camera manual for specific camera settings to hook up to a computer)
iPhoto will open automatically (if not, launch the program from your dock) You will see the import screen
Click the Import All.. button
Do not check “Delete Originals” (Unless you are absolutely sure you want to delete the photos from your digital camera)
Step 2: How to organize picturesOnce you get your pictures imported, it helps to organize them. Follow the directions below on how to create albums in iPhoto:
Click on the Album icon on your toolbar. Name your album and click Create
Your new album should appear in the Source list. You can now drag pictures from your Photo library into your album.
Step 3: How to export a PictureThere may be times that you want to share a picture in your iPhoto library or use it for a project. Follow the directions below on how to export a picture:
Click on the picture that you want to export
Go to File > Export...
A window will open where you can choose how you want your picture to export. Choose the following:
Kind: JPEGJPEG Quality: MediumSize: Medium
Click Export
Name the picture and click OK
Step 4: How to create a slideshowFollow the directions below on how to create a slideshow using your pictures in iPhoto:
Click on the pictures that you would like to use in the slideshow. (To choose multiple pictures, hold down the shift key while clicking on pictures)
A yellow outline will appear around the picture when it is selected.
Click on the play button in the lower panel
A window will open that will allow you to change the settings of your slideshow
Click on the Transition pop-up menu and choose the type of transition you’d like to use for your slideshow.
Move the slider to the left or right to change the speed that your pictures will change
Adjust the amount of time that each picture will stay on the screen. You can also check or uncheck other features to customize your slideshow even more. (Ken Burns Effect will make your pictures zoom in and out as they are displayed)
Click on the Music tab to edit the music that will play during your slideshow
A window will open that will access your iTunes library and all of the music that you have stored there.
To choose a song in your iTunes library, click on the song and click the play button
Once you’ve made all of your slideshow setting adjustments, click on the Play button in the bottom right corner.
Step 5: How to create a bookIn iPhoto, you can create a book of your pictures. Follow the directions below:
Click on the Book icon on the toolbar
A window will open asking you to choose a book theme. Click on the various themes to see a preview.
Once you’ve chosen a theme, click Choose
A window will appear asking when you’d like to add photos to your book. Click Add Now
Another window will open directing you to drag photos from your iPhoto library into your album project that has now been added to your source menu
Click on the book title to change the name of your book
Pictures that you have added to the book project will appear at the top of your viewing screen. Click and drag the pictures to the blank spaces on your book template
The pictures will automatically resize themselves to fit the blank spaces in the book template.
Click on the arrows to move through the book.
Click on the standard text to personalize it.
You can view the book template 2 pages at a time or 1 page at a time
If you click on the Background icon, you can change the background style of your photo book page
Click on the layout icon
You can change the type of photo page that will appear in the book.
In order to add more pages to your book, click the add pages icon
If you would prefer iPhoto to decide where your pictures go, click the autoflow icon and the pictures that you’ve added to your book project will automatically be placed throughout the book.
Step 6: How to send album to iWebOnce you’ve created albums in iPhoto, you can send the pictures within the album to iWeb and a webpage will automatically be created with the pictures. Follow the directions below:
Click on the album you’d like to make into a webpage
Go to Share > Send to iWeb > Photo Page
iWeb will automatically launch and will ask you to choose a theme for your photo page. Find the template you like and click Choose.
Your pictures will appear in a webpage format. (For additional information on how to continue in iWeb, please refer to specific iWeb directions)
Step 7: How to burn a CDFollow the directions below on how to burn a CD of your pictures:
Click on the album you’d like to burn a CD of.
Click on Share > Burn
iPhoto will prompt you to insert a blank disc
Once you insert the disk, a new toolbar will appear at the bottom of your viewing window
Click Burn
A window will appear. Click Burn again.
