It has been on the US market since 2010. Comprising a system and a disposable catheter, it allows a consistent surgery to be produced each time, thereby reducing the risk of redo fundoplications in particular. It is also used in most leading POEM endoscopic achalasia surgery programs in the US, with recent literature showing that the probability of a satisfactory outcome from POEM endoscopic surgery is almost doubled if the procedure is calibrated within a certain GEJ distensibility range using EndoFLIP. EndoFLIP is an emerging standard for the assessment of esophageal lumen size and compliance in patients with Eosiniphilic Esophagitis, with a recent paper demonstrating that EndoFLIP is highly sensitive in predicting food impaction in the year following measurement. It is in use in most US clinical trials for new drugs targeting this disorder. Current areas of development for EndoFLIP include: •assessment of the pylorus to decide treatment strategy in gastroparesis, a recent paper demonstrating how unnecessary dilation/botox injections may be avoided through prior assessment with EndoFLIP. •assessment of the anal spincters in Fecal Incontinence. • Assessment of oesophageal motility during endoscopy which in many cases may in future obviate the need for follow up visits for manometry.
