NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 39) which is identical with IEC 60317-.39(1992) ‘Specifications for particulartypes of winding wires — Part 39: Glass-fibre braided, polyester or polyesterimide varnish-treated, bareor enamelled rectangular copper wire, temperature, index 180’ issued by the International ElectrotechnicalCommission (lEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of theWinding Wires Sectional Committee (ET 33) and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

The text of the IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attentionis particularly drawn to the following:

a)

b)

Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear, referring to this standard, they should be readas ‘Indian Standard’.

Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice isto use a “point (.) as the decimal marker.

Only the English text of the International Standard has been retained while adopting it as an IndianStandard, and as such the page numbers given here are not the same as in IEC Publication.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standardsalso exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their places are listed belowalong with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PARTICULAR TYPESOF WINDING WIRES

PART 39 GLASS-FIBRE BRAIDED, POLYESTER OR POLYESTERIMIDEVARNISH-TREATED, BARE OR ENAMELLED RECTANGULAR COPPER WIRE,

1 Scope TEMPERATURE INDEX 180

This part of IEC 317 specifies the requirements of glass-fibre braided, polyester orpotyesterimide varnish-treated, bare or enamelled rectangular copper winding wire, temperature index 180.

NOTE - For this type of wire, the heat shock test is inappropriate and therefore a heat=hock temperaturecannot be established. Consequently, a class based on the requirements for temperature index and heatshock temperature cannot be specified.

The enamelled wire shall be based on one of the following standards and shall be agreedbetween purchaser and supplier.

IEC 317-16:1990, Specifications for particular types of winding wires - Part 16: Polyesterenamelled rectangular copper wire, class 155.

IEC 317-28:1990, Specifications for particular types of winding wires - Part 28: Polyester-imide enamelled rectangular copper-wire, class 180.

tEC 317-29:1990, Specifications for particular types of winding wires - Part 29: Polyesteror polyesterimide overcoated with polyamide-imide enamelled rectangular copper wire, class 200.

IEC 317-30:1990, Specifications for particular types of winding wires - Part 30: Polyimideenamelled rectangular copper wire, class 220.

When an enamelled wire is used, it must have a minimum class of 155.

The temperature index of the glass-fibre braided varnish-treated wire is dependent uponthe type of varnish used. The varnish applied to the glass-fibre is based upon polyester orpdyesterimide resin and shall have a minimum temperature index of 180. The method oftest is to be agreed between purchaser and supplier. The maximum service temperatureshall be determined by experience.

The covering shall consist of a single braid of glass-fibre in two grades of thickness:

- grade G1 and grade G2 or bare covered wires;- grade 1G1 and grade 1G2 or grade 1 enamelied wires, and- grade 2GI and grade 2G2 or grade 2 enamelled wires.

The range of nominal conductor dimensions covered by this part is:

- width: min. 2,0 mm max. 16,0 mm;- thickness: min. 0,80 mm max. 5,60 mm.

The specified combinations of width and thickness as well as the specified width/thicknessratio are given in IEC 317-0-5.
